Assigning Materials in Rhino for Lumion
For export using the OpenCollada DAE format.
If you want the materials in Lumion to be different for different surfaces, objects or layers, then you need to make sure a material name is assigned to each. And, it is a unique (different) name from other material names.
The material name for the surfaces making up the model, define which surfaces will be combined and named in Lumion as a single combined surface. This is done for performance, and ease of use in applying and updating materials.
In Rhino you can set Layers
to have a Material
. The Material Name
will be used for the export. All elements of that Rhino Layer
will then be identified by that material name when imported to Lumion:
The cube on the right is in Layer 1
. Layer 1
has a Material
defined. In Lumion it imports with the Layer 1 Material
as its material/surface name (see attached pics 1, 2 and 3).
You can also define/assign materials in Rhino by assigning material by object:
The cube on the left is on Layer
2. Layer 2
has no Material Layer
name, but does have a material defined for the object. It imports to Lumion using the object's material name (see attached pics 4, 5 and 6).
Any Rhino Layers or elements that have the same material name will have the same combined surface and name in Lumion.
If no material is assigned for a Rhino Layer
, then it will not have a unique material name, and will be part of a catch all material/surface name in Lumion.
