in-app purchase like app store?
would be fantastic!

inside Lumion I could see the icon preview or watch mini videos, choose the library I want to purchase...credit card...all inside Lumion...why not?

For example would be fantastic to download the new 3d libraries and use it inside Lumion but they will have a sort of red cage (bounding box), you could be the first to implement this feature in 3d objects. After the purchase the cage will disappear.

Immagine After Effects demo plugins, they work free but with a red cross.

Fantastic, we are happy to hear that things are progressing.  The upcoming software update looks great.  Thinking with the spring sale i might pick a copy up for my personal use instead of using the companies.  Great job and keep it up.

We probably have around 4 or 5 plugin packs and will make 1 free to choice is the current idea. We plan to make the pack more a program. So if you get the foliage pack all new trees we create will be available to you. Same goes for animation and water pack etc. Remember that all of this is in the idea phase. Since we add new content to a pack we will try to make all packs really attractive if you need them and put a similar amount of time/bought content in each pack.

As far as prices go I would like some feedback from users.

For example I'll list the current plugin packs which we might create and keep adding content to:

Foliage pack:
- the pollen/flies/butterflies etc
- many new trees (100+)
- planned high quality trees

Character pack:
- 100+ 2D silhouettes
- 50+ 3D silhouettes (shine trough white)
- new non animating models
- planned sitting animating models

Water pack:
- Ocean
- Falling water (waterfalls. slides etc)
- Fountain particle system (50 presets but adjustable)

Animation pack:
- movie effects to trigger animation
- more control over animations of models
- importable animations
- we are thinking of also allowing our advanced character model import using pointclouds

Movie effect pack:
- really good depth of field
- post processors for cartoon look edge rendering etc
- planned effects

Special effects pack:
- Smoke (30 presets but adjustable)
- Fire
- Fog
- etc

Sound pack:
- 3d placeable sounds
- including the 50 euro per client ACC license for sound in mp4
- ability to include sound under a movie

Not all these packs might be released in update 2 and they might all change and we might change our minds completely. However I still would like your ideas on what would be acceptable pricing for them. Remember you get 1 of the packs for free.

Please don't react if you can only say 'everything for free'. Some serious reactions are highly appreciated.

a good price could be 99,00€ for each pack

599,00 for all bundled packs

Please, inside of Character pack / 2D silhouettes and 3d people models.
Resolve the white border of 2d Silhouettes when the sun is low.
And for all models of 2d and 3d people, make the possibility to paint all white or black, for use in abstract representation of concurse of architecture.

You don´t named the Pack Transport, And I´m afraid you are forget to increase the value of colors for the CARS. Only 4 primary colors are to look a toy and nothing real. I really need to have a cars that will be around a corner, and much more control of direction and velocity.

And about the price of the plugins packs, from 50 to 100 € look to me very reasonable.
Thanks

Indeed the colors fo the cars are way to colorfull and I had problems/lots of work toning them down in photoshop because they are too saturated.
Choosing from a color wheel / color picker would be my favorite solution for car paints. :)

Hi Ferry

Be carefull about these prices, when one is studying the competitive to decice which software will buy, one of more important things in our decision is the price and the bundles included.

I mean. for instance Vue 9 Xstream  cost 1090 €, DAZ Bryce 7 Pro for landscaping 100 €, IClone Pro 200 €, Modo 501 995 €, CityEngine STUDIO 1695 €, last version of Cityscape 1.900 €, Cormucopia Bundles for Vue from 2€ to 50 €.............

If Lumion, my best solution and option, even having this all programs said before, going across "some prices" could be in trouble with the kind of customers and users potentially more interesting.

Now in your mind, the Lumion's basic license will cost 799 € plus 600 € for bundles, it will sum around 1400 €+VAT

This is only a thought!!

Well whatever price we will come up with we will try to have Lumion be the best in what we try to achieve. That is extremely user friendly with a program you can start to make money with right out of the box.

Looking at the post from Ferry regarding the different packs a question comes to mind.
Are all the new feautures shown in the preview only available as extra packs?
What I mean to say is are there also new features in the "base" edition of Lumion.
Not that I mind this structure. I would instantly get the foliage and character packs. I have less use for the special fx and water packs.
On the other hand it would also be nice to see some new trees and characters in the base version.

There will still be changes to the base version for free. Like the tone mapping. But real content like the new trees will only be in a pack is the idea for now.

I hope Lumion won't "overpack" us.
With packs there is always a question of compatibility with future versions of the main program.  Does it mean I will have to buy an update for a pack to be compatible with fe Lumion v5, as it was the situation with 3d Studio plug ins?
Then after a while you will incorporate packs into the main program and the original pack buyer will feel "outpacked".
Ok, we're all here to make money.
If I had to decide about the selling strategy for Lumion3D I would push for mass sales of the program itself. Beef it up instead of dilluting it with multi packs.  Keep the price of the main program competitve, go into numbers.  All functions (light control, fx, movie editing, sound) should be in the program, not packs.   In packs you can sell object models fe people (there is a lot of potential in improving the look of the people you have...) in all kind of variations (shopping, leisure, beach, casual, business, travelling, etc.),  vehicules of all kinds (driving, flying, swimming),  situation packs (airport, train station, hospital, industry), furniture pack, etc.
Concentrate on all kinds of import exchange formats, especially for popular software fe Sketchup or Bonzai (still an underdog but much better than Sketchup)(btw Bonzai /Autodessys could use a boost in the animation sector,  team up with it).  Just an idea.
Don't get into so many packs.  Compatibility with future versions is the key so no function packs, just object packs.

The idea is that a pack is more like a subscription with a single fee. So once you are interested in sound you get the sound pack and you can keep using sound in future Lumion versions and get new sound content. We will never put sound in basic Lumion because of the patent fees we have to pay (50 euro per license only for ACC let alone support mp3) so it is not an option for us to only put content in packs.

I would incorporate sound in the version 2 and include the 50€ in the version 2 price to cover the cost.  Sound is crucial, it shouldn't be a pack option.  Lumion should be the unique animation allrounder, sound, cut, fx, etc included.  My saliva is running already...

imho

Agree with tata2000.
Packs are not that user-friendly solution as they pretend to be.

Hello everybody,
@tata2000 :  you maybe think that sound is crucial, but i think it's not. For example, when we present a project in a town hall , we are speaking while people watching the video ....
Nobody use a software in the same way, nobody have the same aim or the same public.
I work in south of France, and i always need tree as Mediterranean pine or Olive tree, lavender, bougainvillea Glycine  and so on ... MORE TREE , NO SOUND ... MORE TREE NO SOUND  :-P
For each user you'll find many wishes.

Never take a particularly case for a generality  :-D

i hate thing like "Mediterranean tree Pack 24" "Winter Tropical small bush pack 52" or "half texture pack that you'll never use pack 2"  :-D
Sell pack is a good idea if it's reasonable, because when i look at the pack list made by ferry (i have in mind that everything can change) i think that I'll need 3 of your packs (Foliage and tree, Character, Water).
I hope like everybody that this will not cost too much  :-D

Cordially

@gga_mars
Sound is the fourth dimension. You have no idea how people react to visualizations, animations for that matter,  with their subconsciousness.  Music or background sound steers the mood of the public.
Take early silent movies and notice how sound revolutionized the perception of movies.
Nothing has changed since.  Consciousness is just the tip of the Unconsciousness iceberg.  It involves sound, color, pace, etc.

Having sound in Lumion and hopefully movie editing capabilities would eliminate the necessity to use another software package (fe Premiere).  Why make things complicated?

If you prefer talking during the presentation, just turn down the sound.

@Frank
In the past I even had plug-ins with their own dongles...
and with each upgrade of the main software package the question if the plug-ins still work came always back to haunt you.

For me i will always post produce videos.  Integrating logos, written text for credits, color tweaks, music sound could make the Lumion way too bloated.  I personally like the streamlined nature of the "movie maker" portion of the software.  IMHO i think Lumion should concentrate on what the software is intended to do...generate fantastic quality pre-production material for both stills and video content.  My two cents, as i will always post produce...but again, this is not my software...will need to be for the masses 8)

So sounds as a plugin is a good option.
People who want it buy it - do all in lumion, those who dont, and do post producten, dont pay for it.

If you keep this up we are going to be long term!!

We will introduce a system where we can reward people who make content we process and provide with Lumion.

We are also thinking of packs in the 100-150 euro range. Packs will work really easy to integrate. We have a plugin screen where you can login to your forum account. Then Lumion will check and download the packs that belong to your account and you can work immediatly. Most packs won't need a separate installer. Maybe the folliage pack will since it is probably around 1 GB of data.

We don't want cripple ware. So we don't want important features disabled that you can then enable. So most packs are in mind that not everyone will need them. But we will see we try to be flexible. If the packs don't work version 2 of Lumion might do everything differently.

speaking about the animation pack I will able to export from 3ds Max:

animated cameras + dolly, bank and fov?
how many cameras?
how many channels for objects?
motion of all objects + rotation and scale ?
motion of objects on path or they must be keyframed converted?
animated RGB materials + transparency + texture uvw position ?
in Lumion I will able to tweak imported animations?

We just import what the fbx file imports. You won't be able to change the animation inside Lumion. We will see how to use an animation for the camera.
