Title: reflections
Post by: mdsign on January 03, 2013, 03:10:52 pm
Hi,

I'm new to Lumion.

For an interior scene I want to add a little reflection on the floor.
In this scene you can see the reflection going strange with some sort of an offset.
How can I correct this? I already tried the error reduction slider.  ???

cheers, Mark

Hi mdsign, I assume that you have applied a Reflection effect to your clip (or to Photo mode) and assigned a reflection plane to the floor model in Lumion 3.0.2.

Regarding the floor material, can you explain which material type this is?

If it's a Standard material, did you apply a non-normalmap texture to the normalmap slot by any chance?

Ok, this is what's causing the problem with the reflections.

You need to create a blue/purple normalmap (https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=normalmap&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.1355534169,d.d2k&bpcl=40096503&biw=1920&bih=1099&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&authuser=0&ei=WJnlULT5BMbQ0QWXyICIBw)) - otherwise it won't work.

You can use 3rd party applications such as CrazyBump to convert a diffuse texture to a blue/purple normalmap.

Morten,
Would reflections only work when using standard materials?
Thanks

Hi Larias, there are 2 types of reflections in Lumion 3:

1) Projected reflections (not accurate)
2) Planar reflections (accurate)

Planar reflections work with the following materials:

Projected reflections work with all materials with a Reflectivity parameter:
