Great news!!
My only concern is:
"You need an internet connection in order to run Lumion" , so if my internet is not working or i do not have a internet connection.. What should i do? .. I don't like the idea of relying on an internet connection in order to work on a software... Quick question: if my internet goes down do i loose all my project and data?
Anyways great job on the new version.. :)

You won't lose your data because it is only required at startup. We have a backup system you can use on your phone (trough internet too) and we're working on a sms backup system so you can simply activate using a sms. We know an activation system like this has drawbacks but in the end the benefits outweight the drawbacks.

I tested the 32 bit version before and it worked great. Maybe something went wrong with the final build. We'll look into it and quickly make sure the 32 bit version works as it should.

We HIGHLY recommend 64 bit Windows. In most cases your hardware can already do it, the Windows license does not even cost extra and the limitations of 32 Bit are really low for an application like Lumion. Performance is the same on 32 bit but you'll quickly run out of memory with bigger models or large textures.

Yes De-activate Lumion 2.5

If the download didn't start automatically after completing (which is rare), you can find the setup files next to the download manager .exe

Downloading and installation of Lumion 3 completed, but i want to find and backup the installation files for the future installations/uninstallations/disk reformatting, etc. Installer probably downloaded all the necessary files under Temporary Internet Files folder, but couldn't find them.

Nothing stays in temporary folders when it is completed. You can copy the setup files to a separate location. The files are next to the download manager, if you sort by date in explorer you will clearly see it. Most probably it is in the folder where your browser stores downloaded files.

Sorry,it's my bad. I probably selected "run" instead of "save as" in the first place. That's why i can't find the setup files now.
I'll download again later this week, once most of the other Lumion users finish downloading.

You can download Lumion 3 many times but, as stated in the e-mail, you can also copy the setup files.

Guys, this is unbelievable so far!
Played with it for only a couple of hours, but it's simply great!
There're some new features that was not even revealed. Partial transparency is now enabled, 3d sounds are movable (sound of engine can move with your car!), rendering can be paused for animations (even if you may not need this). Those were the features which were not officially announced as far as i realise.
Global illumination, volumetric clouds and animated textures work great at first sight.
The only thing i didn't like so much is the way that we apply the planar reflections.

Just a quick note, not every mp4 videos can be used as an animated texture. I guess only H.264/MPEG-4 files are accepted.

Just got the first error message. While i tried to get a poster size photo of small test scene, my video card has crashed. I know Quadro 4000 is not a recommended Lumion card, but this has never occured with much bigger models in Lumion 2.5. This may be a clue that there'll be more issues with Quadro cards in Lumion 3.

Enjoying the new features in 3.0

couple questions -

Where do I find the camera bloom and star filters.

Are there render elements like the previous version - like alpha, reflection. z depth, material ID, etc.  I can't find them.

thanks,!

First impression...  it looks like a light version of lumion :-) and what happen with the clouds in movie effects. OpenGL looks terrible when playback (pixelated and flickering) hope it looks better when rendering?

z-depth, material ID, and alpha ? I hope they are still in her...

If you sets the sun position in movie effects and go back to building mode to adjust, the sun will go back to default...

Snows on people, why not :-)

New trees looks great...

Mind blown. Awesome, awesome job, Lumion development team!  8)

BTW: I purchased the upgrade from 2 to 3 a few months back and I received the email from Lumion with the download info (including all the necessary installation credentials), but my "Customer Area" shows no indication that I've upgraded (it features an advertisement for upgrading to 3)...and my user icon still indicated Lumion 2. What's up with that?

I had a chance to get into the program today and so far I feel there will be a learning curve to figure everything out again. I do have a couple questions.

1. How do I remove fog? I see no settings anymore? Is there a way to move the display back to the more complex settings?

2. There was a fade in and fade out I used when importing a image, like a title screen, I don't see allot of the effects that used to be in 2.5

Thanks

All things you can change, including fog, are now implemented as movie/photo effects. There's also a button to go to build mode with all your effects enabled.

This means they are not interactive in realtime anymore in full screen and we have to do our realtime adjustments in a smaller screen.

This is a backward step, wheather build screen is practically useless now as there are also effects for sun position and clouds. Why not also remove them?

GI is really great and I also like your new trees. Good update.
There are however some important issues for me.

Are there render elements like the previous version - like alpha, reflection. z depth, material ID, etc.  I can't find them.

+1 !
I can't find additional renders for Photo renders too. I need to quickly make a couple of high resolution stills for my client but I can't even activate back my 2.5 license (I've reported this in bugs section). I know that these renders are available in rendering movies in Images sequence mode, but I need a resolution for printing so 1440p is not enough.

Thanks!

Hi mtrz, the developers decided to remove some elements when they overhauled the Photo and Movie section, in order to reduce clutter on the screen. One of the functions that they removed is the ability to render custom maps in Photo mode.

This means that the maximum resolution for depthmaps, sky alpha maps etc has been reduced from 7680x4320 in Photo mode to 2560x1440 (in Movie mode).

They acknowledge that some customers will miss this functionality, and they will consider re-instating similar functionality again in a future update. However, Ferry says that this might take some time, so if you need custom map output in Print/Poster resolution you will need to use Lumion 2.5 until then.

Sure, that's not a problem.

Simply copy the Scenes and Library folders from Documents/Lumion 2 to Documents/Lumion 3 and restart Lumion 3.

Just bear in mind that a lot of stuff has changed, so you will have to remove all Movie effects from your clips (and from "Entire movie") and re-apply them in Lumion 3.

The Bloom effect is now in Movie effects -> Style tab -> Bloom.

Regarding 'star filters', do you mean the Lens Flare? effect? If so, this effect is in Movie effects -> Camera tab -> Lens Flare.

Are there render elements like the previous version - like alpha, reflection. z depth, material ID, etc.  I can't find them.

The custom map export options have been removed from Photo mode in order to reduce clutter.

They are however available in the Movie export dialog window if you click on the IMG tab.

and what happen with the clouds in movie effects. OpenGL looks terrible when playback (pixelated and flickering) hope it looks better when rendering?

The reason for the pixelated clouds is that they are slower to calculate in Lumion 3, so Ferry has had to reduce the preview resolution when you apply the Clouds effect. You will now have to render an image to see what they will look like on final renderings.

(Lumion uses DirectX, not OpenGL by the way)

z-depth, material ID, and alpha ? I hope they are still in her...

If you sets the sun position in movie effects and go back to building mode to adjust, the sun will go back to default...

When you return to Movie or Photo mode from Build mode, you will have to update the lighting manually by pressing the U key:

To remove z-depth and alpha channel means you no longer have the ability to take your design into Photoshop and apply the real background with a photo  (no photo means no backdrop)  This is the most important step in 3d visualization for our clients.

In this situation Reduce clutter means reduce functionality.

The reason for the pixelated clouds is that they are slower to calculate in Lumion 3, so Ferry has had to reduce the preview resolution when you apply the Clouds effect. You will now have to render an image to see what they will look like on final renderings.

So now we are back to testrendering again  :'(

There is simply to big a different in the lightning situation between build mode and movie mode. And I don’t se any update in build mode when using the U key (sun position etc.)

Before I try this – is it possible to transfer 3d content from 3 over to 2.5?

This means you have to manually set new sun/sky parameter every time you go from build mode to movie mode?

As I have told before lighting-fog-clouds are not realtime interactive in full-screen build mode anymore. This is a huge step backwards and it is really annoying. They have probably made this as it was not possible to keep these settings after an effect was added in the movie section.

Personally I love this option. I am so tired of spending thousand of dollars for software and others being able to download and crack it. I love the fact you even have to provide a key to even download it. I will give this a +1 all day long.

The Bloom effect is now in Movie effects -> Style tab -> Bloom.

Regarding 'star filters', do you mean the Lens Flare? effect? If so, this effect is in Movie effects -> Camera tab -> Lens Flare.

The custom map export options have been removed from Photo mode in order to reduce clutter.

They are however available in the Movie export dialog window if you click on the IMG tab.

Found them - thanks Morten!

Movie effects -> Style tab -> In/out

Ok, I see this option for a video scene, and I see this for the whole movie export, but there is no option when you are insde the frame of just the image as the 2.5 version would let you fade in then out on just the image before going to the next sequence.
Does this make sence?

I have found a work around, I import the image in a new lumion file and add the effect to the whole movie, I then export to video...... and import that file back into title screenarea as movie not image.

To remove z-depth and alpha channel means you no longer have the ability to take your design into Photoshop and apply the real background with a photo  (no photo means no backdrop)  This is the most important step in 3d visualization for our clients.

Hi ryste3d, the custom map output functionality is still available in Movie mode up to a resolution of 2560x1440:

Movie mode -> Movie export -> Images -> Additional Exports -> Custom

So now we are back to testrendering again  :'(

Regarding the pixelated clouds when you apply a Clouds effect in Movie or Photo mode, Ferry is changing this in the next update, so that if you press the U key you will get an accurate (but slow) preview of the clouds.

There is simply to big a different in the lightning situation between build mode and movie mode.

If you want to see the effects from Movie or Photo mode in Build mode, please click on the new 'Build mode with effects' button in the top left corner in Movie/Photo mode. Or is this not what you meant?

This means you have to manually set new sun/sky parameter every time you go from build mode to movie mode?

No, press U to update the lighting when you return to Movie/Photo mode from Build mode:

Yes, that is correct.

However, you can render a single image (including all of the custom map output formats) in Movie mode:

1) Save Movie (or Create Movie from clip) -> Images tab
2) Additional exports -> Selected custom maps
3) Frame Range -> Custom -> Range -> Frame number to frame number (this can be 1 frame)

Hi csmckillip, are you in fact talking about fading in an overlay image?

If so, this effect is now available in the following tab:

Movie effects -> Style tab -> Overlay Image

The Fade slider lets you make it fade in an out.

Hi Jonathan, if you mean the Shadow range setting, this is now only available in the Shadows effect in the Photo/Movie sections.

You can however click on the 'Build mode with effects' button in the top left corner if you want to (temporarily) see this effect applied to Build mode too.

Hi ilwedritschel, did you apply a Reflection effect (Movie effects -> World tab -> Reflection) to the floor and ceiling? If so, remember to define the 2 planes after clicking on the effect button. Once you've done that, you'll get accurate planar reflections on those surfaces.

wy the clouds so dark with importet scene from 2.5 wath i do to change?

Since it is no longer possible to adjust the camera and weather settings in Build mode, Lumion automatically adjusts the settings in imported scenes so they use default values.

Are you sure you meant to say that the clouds are dark? In my opinion, they seem too bright whereas the sky is a tad dark :)

In any case, I'd be grateful if you could zip + upload the full .ls3 scene file and send it to me via wetransfer.com (morten [at] act-3d.com). I'll then forward it to Ferry so he can investigate if the default weather settings are applied correctly or not.

The custom map export options have been removed from Photo mode in order to reduce clutter.

They are however available in the Movie export dialog window if you click on the IMG tab.

When you return to Movie or Photo mode from Build mode, you will have to update the lighting manually by pressing the U key:

Hi Morten... About the custom maps in Photo mode - I must say I can't get the clutter reason for taking them out. I'm sure something can be worked out to allow this in Photo mode too. Going to movie mode > select image export > and try and find the exact frame is not a way to go.

Yep, I use this all the time for Can Lights, I guess to will have to adjust the Emmissive property in the material to achive this effect now.

Today i installed Lumion on another computer. I was expecting that while Lumion doesn't run on any other computers, i would be able to run it on another computer. (The "you can install on multiple machines, but can run only one of them at a time." principle)
But when i wanted to run Lumion on another computer, the welcome screen only says "General Error."
What's that? Something about licensing system, or computer?

I found out about the stereoscopic settings and smooth edges. To render stereoscopic you have to have the stereoscopic effect applied. Then it gets stereoscopic automaticly.

The smooth effect is performed automaticly when using 1 or 2 star quality.

But the rest is still unanswered

Hi,

I miss some stuff from Lumion 2.5. Are these things removed or is it me that just cant find them?

-Stereoscopic Output for animations
-The render background settings for animations
-Additional map channel export for animations
-The Bleech Effect
-Smooth Edges Effect
-In 2,5 when I used some of the streetlights, I also got light sources along with the light. Are they gone now?

Thanks!

-Stereoscopic Output for animations

Hi stribeck, this is now a Movie effect.

1) Select "Entire Movie" in the lower left corner (the big button).
2) New effect -> Camera tab -> Stereoscopic Settings

The next time you render your video clips, the output will be side-by-side stereoscopic renderings, just like in Lumion 2.

-The render background settings for animations

Background rendering is now always on by default, so there is no longer a need for a button.

-Additional map channel export for animations

Save Movie/Create movie from clip:
Images tab -> Additional export -> Custom -> D/N/S/L/A/M

Also, please install Lumion 3.0.1 to ensure you have the new Single tab in the Save Movie/Create movie from clip windows. This allows you to render individual photos with all effects in the Movie section.

-The Bleech Effect

Please install Lumion 3.0.1:
New effect -> Style tab -> Bleach

-Smooth Edges Effect

The Smooth Edges effect has been removed as it is now applied by default in all real-time modes (Build/Photo/Movie mode) and when rendering 1 and 2 star movies.

-In 2,5 when I used some of the streetlights, I also got light sources along with the light. Are they gone now?

What you saw in Lumion 2 was in fact a bug :)

The lamp posts as well as the interior lamps already have emmissive masks but unfortunately, Ferry hasn't had time to implement the user interface for them in "Edit properties" so that you can turn them on/off (or maybe a slider would be better so you guys can adjust the intensity of the emmissive map of each lamp). The same bottleneck with emmissive masks applies to cars with headlights.

The emmissive masks of the 2 lamp posts that did glow in Lumion 2 were not disabled, which meant that they would appear to be lit even in daytime scenes.

I hope he will have time to implement the user interface for this function in a future update.

If I am not mistaken (I tested it only once) we can now save camera positions in the Movie mode. Using the "Overlay" effect we can do camera matching now.

Hi byzantium1200, I can't save camera viewpoints while editing a clip in 3.0.1 (CTRL + 0/1/2/3...). I can however load saved camera viewpoints (SHIFT + 0/1/2/3...).

This will be fixed in the next update (3.0.2).

What does (Purple image) in "Change normalmap" texture mean?

Should we get offended?  ???

The only thing which was changed was the tooltip text.

The problem was that people were adding random textures to this slot instead of proper blue/purple normalmaps.

If you don't use a proper normalmap for a material with a reflection plane, the reflections will be offset.

Your license tells you that. If it contains LUM2ULT you have Lumion 2 Ultimate, LUM2PRO is Lumion 2 Pro, Lumion 2 is LUM2NORM. Upgrade sceme is on the update page.

Hi,

Are you able to update from lumion 2.5 straight to 3.2 or should it be done in order 3,3.1,3.2?
Title: Re: Lumion 3.0 Discussion

Hi DRACOFFS,

A Lumion 2.x license can be upgraded to Lumion 3.x without problems.

Regarding the installation, there is no patch system for Lumion, so every time a new update is released you need to download the full installation program.

However, this allows you to have multiple versions of Lumion installed.

Hi rohn

Please send an email (as requested) to Arthur, advising of your current license and if you would like to upgrade, then requesting arrangements for upgrading.  Also let him know this fact that did not get email so that the mailing database can be corrected.

I have also sent him a message on your post.
