Title: fill area with objects
Post by: kimleyhorn on June 20, 2012, 10:45:37 pm
I am working on a planting plan and was hoping that lumion had a easy way to fill an area (planting beds) with and object (plants).  Seems like it would be a useful tool to have or maybe a object sprayer that you could have a bit more control over other than just random.  Any ideas? ???

Hi kimleyhorn, here are some of the operations that you may find useful when populating your scene:

Excerpt from the Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts thread: (

(CTRL) + Drag with Left mouse button: Rectangular selection tool for selecting multiple objects.
(CTRL) + (SHIFT) + Drag with Left mouse button: Add new rectangular selection to existing selection.
(ALT) + Move selected object(s): Copy-paste selected object(s) by pressing ALT while dragging one of the selected objects.
Place object mode -> (CTRL) + Left-click: Randomly place 10 copies of the currently active object library model.
Place object mode -> (Z) + Left-click: Place a new object with +/-0 to 50% random scale.

Hi Kimleyhorn.

I have several friends that worked for Kimleyhorn and I interviewed with your offices about a decade ago.
Where are you stationed out of?  Are you from the mother ship?

What you are looking for, for populating plants in Lumion on specific meshes, is not at this moment available for LA's working on real world projects where they actually build the terrain in the computer from the contours they design.  Separate the planting zones for specific material application, etc.

I have been (among many others) asking for a population tool to address imported terrain meshes for over a year and have offered up some ways to reduce our place one plant object at a time task.

The developers MUST implement a solution for this time consuming problem with regards to importing real-world accurate terrain meshes.

Sprayers will get out of control in Lumion due to a number of factors.

Best  :)
