Title: Parallel Projection
Post by: Lateralus47 on June 10, 2012, 06:37:13 pm
Lumion is great, but one feature which really should be build-in to the program is parallel projection. As architect I'm rendering all project in Lumion but when it comes to parralel view I have to switch to another rendering program to make elevations using only CPU power. It quite sad since it doesn't look so good as It could be done in Lumion. What is more it looks totally diffrent.. :(

Lumion Team are You planning to build in this feature in the future?

I hope so!

Thanks ;)

i would love to be able to produce elevation renderings also. i think this has been suggested on the new features/wishlist but im not totally sure.

Yes, it has been requested a number of times.

Ferry has previously investigated this issue, but the problem is that a lot of functions stop working correctly when you switch to non-perspective views, e.g. shadows, the ocean, fog etc, so the attempt was abandoned.

Maybe someday it will be possible without any problems with surroundings, I think it is worth to work on that. In that case Lumion would became really complex render program.

One day I also was wondering about lumion engine in comparison to game engines such as unreal or cry engine. I'm intrested if they will fit to program like Lumion, to make architectural visualization. And also if they bring a better graphics than already there is?

u can capture parallel angle straight away in lumion. just play arround with the Focal length and adjust the distance camera. it works good for me so far.  :-D

It works - but the shadows become very low detailed :-(

Also, even with maximum zoom, you will notice that larger projects are not truly parallel the closer to the edges of the image the buildings are.

Does lumion 4 have parallel projection capabilities??

Lumion is capable of converting the standard 3D Perspective to a 2D Parallel Perspective.
See web site for information:2-Point Perspective Effect (http://lumion3d.com/lumion-4-0-update/)

However, conventional orthographic camera angles such as plan view and front/side elevations are not supported.
