Title: performance questions
Post by: jyac315 on January 17, 2011, 06:30:53 pm
we're preparing to purchase a new computer, and now that we've played with the demo of lumion, want to make sure its built to handle the program.

we're set to purchase the following:

Core I5 750 2.66mhz  8mb L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor

P7H55-M/CSM  MP 7H55-M/CSM Motherboard    DDR3 4gb

with an NVIDIA GTX 480.

before i buy, i was wondering if someone might be able to give an idea of what kind of performance we'd get out of this setup.  is it likely to provide smooth interaction at high quality output, like the tutorials exhibit? would it need to be run at reduced quality, but still able to output efficiently?

we're also thinking of spending the extra bit on the GTX 580, instead of 480.  what kind of difference might we see in performance between the two?

love the demo. cant wait to get the real thing!

This setup is better then the computer from the tutorials. However getting a 580 is probably worth it. Maybe not when rendering a simple scene but with large polygon scenes it is going to help!

We would like to hear from you how your system turned out!

thanks for the feedback Ferry.  really appreciate the quick response.

I'll be sure to let you know how it works out.

Note that there's quite a lot you can do to tweak performance. There are several rendering modes and you can tweak the resolution. If you lower the resolution it renders into a smaller image and stretches it to the resolution of your screen.
