Title: Shadows on Distant Objects
Post by: David William Edwards on May 24, 2012, 05:06:17 pm
I know I probably missed the discussion somewhere, but...

When you're zoomed out to see more of an overall view of projects, the shadows start to disappear. I'm sure that's a speed requirement, but is there anyway (or any setting) to set the distance that shadows will always appear.

No, the shadows will always disappear in the distance. All you can do is to increase that distance by sacrificing the shadow texture resolution close to the camera:

Weather settings -> Shadowmap Range

Or, Scene Effects > Shadow Range

Then you can animate the effect as you zoom in and out (and you need it for great distance)

So I see this post is a little dated.  I'm assuming it is relevant to Lumion 2 and not 3 or 4. I was discussing this with a client and we could not find the Shadowmap Range you are referring to in the post below.

So, do shadows still disappear in the distance? What about with smaller objects that are close? Is Also, it seems that thin modeled objects in the distance seem to either disappear or flicker. Is this all related?

Hi The Mendicant Architect, the Shadow Range slider is located in the Shadows effect in the Movie/Photo section. It used to be available in Build mode in earlier versions of Lumion.

Thin models will disappear in the distance in Build mode as there is no anti-aliasing but should not disappear as quickly once you render them in Photo/Movie mode.

You're welcome to attach a zipped model so we can have a closer look.
