Title: very important questions
Post by: solidsnake_ala on April 24, 2012, 11:13:51 am
i have 3 important questions :

1- when i zoom out in lumion > far objects start to disappear and  the shadows fade .. am i the onley one who has this problem or its something wrong in lumion ??

2- when i add reflection to an object to make it a mirror > this reflection doesnt affect the objects that i place in the scene   ..... why !!!!

3- i couldn't find something on the materials to control the amount of the transperency of the material ... i can make it completly invisible or make a glass material but no control for the amount of transperency ..... is there something like that  ???

best regards ..

Hi solidsnake_ala,

1) In order to keep the frame rate reasonable, trees and plants fade out and eventually disappear in the distance. Press F9 if you want to see them at their maximum level of detail at all times. Adjust the Shadowmap Range slider in the Weather section to adjust the distance where the shadows fade out and disappear.

2) Reflections are discussed in this thread:
http://lumion3d.com/forum/general-discussion/how-does-'reflection-control'-works (http://lumion3d.com/forum/general-discussion/how-does-'reflection-control'-works)

3) Glass currently uses the brightness value of the colour as transparency. So white = fully transparent and black = fully opaque.

i like lumion team because they respond fast  and they are respectable...

1- i am not onley talking about the trees . i mean also the object that i import to lumion . they start to disappear as i zoom out ...

2- thanks that was helpfull .. but i hope u add better reflections effects

3- i tried what you told me >> the white is 100% transperent but the black is not fully opaque ....

Hmm, I can't reproduce this. Which version are you using? Can you post 2 screenshots of the full Lumion window, so we can see the models before and after they disappear?

3- i tried what you told me >> the white is 100% transperent but the black is not fully opaque ....

Yes, it's not quite 100% opaque (and fog is rendered on top of glass due to a technical limitation in Lumion) but you get the idea. If you want a fully opaque material, please use the Standard material instead of glass ;)

Play with your Depth Offset slider in Lumion material editor.

Read Morten's answer and don't zoom that far. This is a hardware renderer and has its limits.

Then you should scale everything down.

Hold your horses, there's an easy way to sort this out. First make sure your Depth Offset sliders are set to 0 though unless they're flickering all the time, even when the camera is up close.

Then read this thread (search for "HOW TO PREVENT FLICKERING IN LARGE SCALE SCENES"):
