Title: Landscape impressions
Post by: Aaron on December 21, 2010, 05:19:57 pm
1. Couple of experiments with Lumion for conveying scenic mood impressions.

Highland Dawn

Canyon Outskirts

Wadi Sunrise

2. A series of frame renders from a Sci-Fi oriented short.

Like these a lot, I think with a couple of extra features like a more editable fog, maybe lights, and a night sky, Lumion would be a fantastic evocative landscape generator.

Yeah, would be very nice if the fog shared some features with the cloud shader to mimic the effect of myst a bit better.

Then again, I'm happily suprised as is. Almost too easy to produce images like this and a lot of fun Smile

Do the clouds in the second shot have a motion blur effect on them?  They look really cool, especially toward the edges.

The 2nd shot is a bit of a story. The motion blur is indeed part of the final effect on the clouds. I also used a overlay of the same shot but with higher exposure settings. The clouds came out very nice because of this but the quality of the landscape was greatly reduced because of the same effect.

Guess the proper thing to do would have been to mask it off inside Photoshop but that wasnt part of the excercise EmbarassedSmile

I love the atmosphere of these..the last one in particular. The rock detailing in the foreground is really eye-catching

When will we see other shot of this film? Is it a full film or short?

Just a short for now. It's also a hobby project. Completion of the project depends on the amount of time I have to work on it.

I'll continue to update this topic so stay tuned Smile

Thanks guys, really appriciated!

@Pointwood> All the designs/models/textures -except the materials of the batch as commented above- are my own.

 Being a huge fan of the BSG universe I won't deny for a second some are indeed partially inspired by the Colonial Fleet vessels. The heavy bulkheads/ribs, the rough rudimentary shapes for one. Great that it shows cause I really wasn't sure it would. They also draw inspiration from former Japanese WWII era battleships, especially the Pagode-style layering of the living quarters and main bridge though this isn't a feature on display right now. Soon I hope Smile

@9fly>

 Thanks, hope you're still alive though Wink

@maX>

 I'll try to put up some no sci-fi items again soon.

 So much todo, so little time Smile

All of what you see is rendered inside Lumion.

 No PS unless specifically mentioned.

What kind of issue are you having with getting the sky dark?

 There are several ways of achieving this so perhaps its best if you explain what you would like 1st.
