Title: Merry Xmas
Post by: peterm on December 24, 2011, 10:05:15 pm
Hi, Merry Xmas and all the best to everyone and the Lumion team for 2012.

Lights rendered to much glare, but figured it out, was the Overbright self-illumination had previous L1 version.  Snow seems to have turned blue on the ground, have to figure that one yet.

Anyway, in meantime here's Santa and a Xmas scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDVbA69m6AY#ws).

Will re-do video for fixes later on.

Here's an updated version.  Fixed a number of things, hope you like this version.

This anim was a test of the new V2 advanced animation features (review comments sep topic later on), play with the snow feature (impressive), must try rain and also to test and render scene using the all new lighting of V2.  The lighting and in part this specific scene plus this PC is a little under-powered, meant very (very) slow going, OK in Build Mode so long as did not turn on F8 for light shadows, but render tests for still images and video taxing this PC. Santa did not bring a new super powered PC in his present bag this year  :(

Footpath lights are still flickering but otherwise happier with this version now the Santa anim could do with some tweaks also but ...  Tweaked all lights, fixed overbright settings, changed the sky lighting and clouds and time to produce a different ambient colour which was the cause of the blue-ish/purple snow in v1.  Snow could be tweaked for the keyframes, will be extra good if the snow can be enhanced to not be inside.  Render time 7.5 hours on 2 Star 720p.

NVidia GeForce GTX 560.

Render time is a bit dependent on a couple of the models in this scene seem to take things down a bit.

As the video is only 37 seconds, yeh its quite long, did not try 3star as that reported somewhere around 17+hours.

I need to test out similar lighting on some other scene and compare.  A new i7 with a GTX580 would of course be nice  :)

Unless Nvidia introduce a successor to the 580 GTX series before Jan 9 2012, the upcoming AMD Radeon HD 7970 will become the fastest single-GPU consumer card. It features better frame rates, lower power consumption... and a price tag to match :)

AMD probably just made the announcement about the 7970 before Christmas to make sure people didn't put an Nvidia card on their wishlists :)

From what I've heard, Nvidia will announce their next generation of cards in mid January, so the 7970 might not be the fastest consumer card for long...

It depends on the price that would have released both products :-D
