Title: RT software
Post by: Architectural Innovation on December 16, 2011, 06:53:28 pm
Hey all, has anyone seen or tried Vue 10 by e-on software?

http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/vue/vue_10_infinite/?page=1 (http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/vue/vue_10_infinite/?page=1)

looks interesting. dude in the office is experimenting with it. We checked it out a version or so ago... looks like its been growing.

i think it is important to discuss competing software here so we know where the industry is going and what features and functions are becoming main stream.

we have discussed others before. i would like to keep a list so we can keep tabs on whats shaking out there at a glance.

what do y'all think?

Hi robert, we use Vue 10 Xtream, and many here also do. What you need?

Just curious about exactly what it is and how it functions. Is it a very complex interface compared to Lumion?

Vue is a very good landscape creation software and even an exterior archvis software, not great with interiors IMO even though they have been making inroads into better radiosity settings.

The great thing about Vue is everything is customisable from atmospheres, ecosystems, terrain brushes, plants (which I really like the plant editor), Vue has fantastic animation tools even wind can be animated, all in all Vue is brilliant except for one thing....it's slow, rendering a 1 minute animation with good atmosphers and lots of terrain will take days and not hours and it does not have any realtime tools, runs off CPU, so you will need to farm off animations.

Pete,

these are some really nice renderings.  Did you say you did all of the terrain and vegitation within Vue?  What is the interface like within Vue?

Yes all Vue, very easy with the terrain tools, I also import .DEM terrain contour info.

The user interface is simple enough and basic material editing is straight forward, however the function editor (advanced tools) is node based and will take a phd in chaos theory to master.

Pete,

These are great. Are you planning to (or did you) transfer them to Lumion?

I have not, I do have a few new projects lined up for the new year, one which I believe Lumion may be perfect for is a Cayman investor proposal.

Pete,

I see there are about 1000 different products?  I cant seem to disifer the difference between all of them?  What is the software package you need?  I see architectural with a SU exporter?  Is that all?  Or do you need the full package?

yes. very confusing. looks like Vue 10 is a very professional toolset for creating high poly natural environments...or something like that. It is not RT and takes a ton of timer to render according to others who have used it.

They also have an RT Sketchup plugin, called LumenRT. I havnt looked into much.

I have used Vue 9 Infinite for a while, but defer to Lumion for most things due to speed and ease of use.  Vue's best qualities are its atmospheric possibilities, it's ecosystem population process and control, and it's selective rendering (only rendering what is seen by the camera).

If Lumion were to integrate the ecosystem process and selective rendering I can see no reason to ever use Vue again.

Thanks guys, what is the rendering time like?

Also, what versions do you use?  There looks to be 100 different products??

I use Infinite, been using Vue since version 5.

It all depends on many factors, from atmosphere (main one) to complexed textures and amount of detail as well as render settings. I'd say a decent 3000x render will be equivalent to an unbiased render in time if you want a crisp image.

Thanks Pete, Is there a significant difference between what you use and Architecture?

No, not really, I believe I could achieve everthing I need with the 'complete' version.

Old Vue user here.

I almost walked into traffic on purpose on several occasions while using their software.
Cuz it took so long to get a picture out of it.

But I did get some very nice renderings from it.   :)
I was on the forums with some of the people here way back in the day.
Realized that just now.  Hi old Vue folks!   :-D
It is slow to render.  Need a render farm for big movies.
A lot of options - bloated on some waste.
Reflections take eons to render out - drop them and you can get quick renders out of the software.  Throws photons - different rendering outputs and options.
You can use their plants in Lumion...hehe.
Love the material that allows you to add as many plants and control their densities etc.
(really helpful for coming out of cad packages and plan drawings)
awesome for planters or for planting beds or controlling any vegetation on a model quickly.
Lumion desperately needs this material option.

besides that IMO: Lumion whoops it for any Client vs. value + time saved.
I won't go back unless they speed up their pain.
My patience ran out a long time ago because of that specific software.

Thank you very much for your input!  I really need a software that is highly photo real and decently intuitive to use.  Lumion is great for videos, but i need something a little less cartoony for my images.  The software I use now for renderings is Podium, and Its too flat.  I need something better.  I thought Vue might have been the solution, but i downloaded the free trial and have been messing with it for a week or so.... and I cant seem to figure out much of anything... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I did purchase and start classes on Revit Premium and 3DS this month... So perhaps there is a simple plug in that works well with that.

Thank in advance for anyones help!

there is always Vray.

There is a learning curve.
Most realistic output - but your not just going to jump in and be making masterpieces with it.
Slow like Vue.  You may contemplate hurling yourself off a building while learning to make it sing.

If your just working on still images, Lumion will produce the picture to get started with and you can add all the bells and whistles in PS to add that realistic punch to your images.  Things like reflections, lights, etc.

Even Vray gets the PS after-touch to make it more realistic.
All the pros "touch-up" those incredible images you always see.
You can do the same in Lumion in a 3rd of the time.
