Title: Lumion Competition: Another question
Post by: blendman on September 01, 2011, 08:03:45 am

Hi there, Just hoping to be clear on the competition rules.  I assume Sketchup import is the only other software which is accepted at the production stage?  I ask this as I had in mind using Blender for some minor animation squences, and this would only be a small part of the overall product.

Can you confirm whether we can use other software as well, as part of the production, or whether it is purely Lumion alone!

Sounds like you can use whatever you like.
They are looking for you to "show off" Lumion.

Hi CRhoades,

This is what I assume, but it occurred to me that I do not want to disqualified just because I included other software in the Production process.

They won't disqualify you for that.
Make Lumion Sing so they can use it for marketing.
Target their audience for the software.   ;)
If animations are needed to support the concept of your video I doubt that would count negatively towards your chances to win.

Someone from the Lumion staff will clarify if any of that is incorrect.

Why would it be SU only? There are lots of users who use different modelling application here and speaking of animation, the Max Collada export can do that, too, so Max users (from this point of view) will also be in an advantageous situation.

Certainly SU must be one of the biggest user base for Lumion (nowadays) but far not the only one.

The requirement is that the 3d images in your final movie are created with the movie render of Lumion.

What programs you used to get models into Lumion is not defined.

So it will be something like this I suppose:

1. 3D modeling in 3ds/Sketchup/Maya/Softimage/Whatever
2. Import into Lumion, apply materials, effects and render
3. ( Optional ) Post processing using a video editor ( After Effects and similar ) is allowed, is that right?

Yup, that's fine.
