Title: Greetings!! Need help...
Post by: 5565star on July 03, 2011, 04:24:08 pm
Hello!

I need help or advise....

I tried to download and install the Lumion demo to test it on my machine and I could not get it to start up past the splash page.

My computer specs are Windows XP, Dell Workstation T7400, Quadcore 3 Ghz, 3GB RAM and my current video card is Nvidia Quadro FX 5600.  It seems like there are issues with the Quadro cards.

Do you think it would be better if I upgraded to the GEforce series card....I am considering the Geforce 460.....

Any insights much appreciated....

Thanks!

Randy

Lumion is a game engine.

Quadro is a CAD card.

I run the 1 gig GTX 460 for Lumion on an XP machine.  Sings like a bird.
3 gigs of ram won't be enough for you for long, but you will still be able to do quite a bit.

16-32 gig is where you will end up if you have the coin and pursue this program.

Thanks for the insights.

Sounds like the GeForce cards are where I need to go.

I was thinking about getting the GTX 570 card and staying with the 3 G Ram for right now until I get into this further.

Would you recommend me going with upgrading my RAM to 16 gig and maybe going with 1.2 G GTX 550....

....both options are about the same price

Thanks!

I like the GeForce cards for Lumion.  They work very well.

You can do quite a bit with 3 gigs.

32-bit systems can only use 3.7ish sumthin sumthin gigs.
64-bit systems up to - 64 gigs if you have the slots/& XP is 64bit/Vista/win7

More gigs more polygons, bigger textures, more movement, more action - more everything -
i imagine one could/can load up a lot of "stuff" inside Lumion.

there are others on this site that have boxs running 16g+.
check out their movies in the gallery.

I'd like to see a model chewing on 55+ gigs inside Lumion.  Could be intense.   :-o

There are much more technical people on this site than I - this is just my simplistic understanding.

Check out this model from BIG.  It is a ram smasher.
