Title: Dusk to Dawn Sun Study Issue
Post by: bushman19 on May 23, 2016, 07:52:27 pm
I have created an animation to demonstrate how the sun affects a building throughout 1 full day by using the Sun Study effect with key frames at each hour during the day.

The issue is, at hour "24" it appears the sun is still high in the sky. Than, the next key frame needs to go to 0 for the sun movement to be consistent in the sky. However, at the transition from 24 to 0. The sun goes back to sunrise and then back to "0".....

Anyway to have one smooth flow from dusk to dawn?

Hi bushman19

Thanks for registering your license with the forum  :).

The Sun Study Effect works in a linear basis for example Hours are 0 to 24, Days are 1 to 31.  So it's not possible within a single clip using keyframes to have it (work easily) where the settings loop around those beginning or ending values, for example hours 19 to 24 then 24/0 to 7.

It works best to use two (or more) clips.  If you have one clip already set up, then simply copy (Clip Context Menu -> Edit -> Copy/Paste) the clip to a new one and then make the settings work for each part of the period.

You also of course need to set your ending and starting snapshots the same so that the change in clips is not noticed.

So for a dusk to dawn arrangement:
1. In the first clip, set the Sun Study Effect to your dusk date and time settings, say first key at 17 (5PM) and last one at 24.
2. In the next clip set first key at 0 and last key at dusk, say 7(AM).

Example render attached, with 2 Movie Sets showing different periods.  LS6 used for this render available if needed.
