Title: Minimum hardware requirements on Laptop
Post by: ericooliveira on August 05, 2013, 02:58:19 pm
Hi, everyone.

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 14R (Intel® Core™ i7-3537U, 8 GB de SDRAM DDR3, Nvidia® GeForce® GT730M with 2GB DDR3 VRAM and Windows 8).

I know that my video card is a little bit lower than a Minimum hardware requirements, but I would like to know if I can use Lumion with this laptop for simple scenes.

Hi ericooliveira

The GT730M has a Passmark of 1062.  Here's the links to our base information about requirements that you may already have seen.

Passmark: Videocard Benchmarks (

It depends really on what the "simple scene" consists of.  Some may work OK, other might not, not much of a definitive answer, sorry.  You would need to experiment and find out, but with the caution that the GPU in the laptop is below minimum recommendations.

Run the Benchmark to see what result that is for your laptop.

A simple scene might consist of one or more buildings, some buildings only need low levels of detail and texturing whereas other might be quite costly in detail.

If you start with a building you have on an empty New template scene and build from there with some entourage you may be able to build and render quite well and good scenes.

What does have a critical impact is the use of the really high end effects (GI, Reflections Planes, lots of lights), and if you avoid those you can still get great results (pending laptop capability).  If you also follow some of the suggestions in the How To Reduce Render Times then that may also help to complete final renders.

See if you can run the sample scenes, and look to adding some further content for example Wegner scene, test rendering photos and some of the video clips, but remove/turn off the high end effects mentioned above.
