Turn Lights off?

Is there a way to turn the lights off in a sun animation?  I want them on when the sun goes down, but not throughout the day.  Is there a way to do this in the same animation/video?  Or do I need to delete the lights, animate it, then turn then on and animate night?

Thanks,
Lorne

Hi Lorne, it is currently not possible to animate the light properties, so you can't make them switch off or fade at sunset. I think Remko mentioned that this is something they might consider investigating.

Thanks Morten.  I hope this will be a feature soon!

I'm not sure but have you tried putting lights in a different layer and hiding the layer?

Unfortunately, you can't animate the Hide Layer effect during a clip, so you'd have to apply it to one clip at a time, so to speak.

However, you can probably get the end of Clip 1 to look more or less like the beginning of Clip 2 (where you'd unhide the lights at sunset).

I haven't tried this yet but it should work, at least in theory :)

Hmm... a hide/show effect with animation capabilities would be a good idea then :D

in my car the interior lights fade on,  when i open the door at at night.
and fade out, when the door is closed.

if a fade on/off fx could be applied to a layer containing lights,
then the whole house could be lit this way , as opposed to a simple on/off switch.

Hmm maybe a light dimmer with switches which allow you to apply the effect to specific layers.

Simply having a property of a light On/Off would seem much more obvious and much, much more useful.

Layers are surely for other purposes, and apply to everything on that layer whereas turning  lights on/off should be on a per light basis with an overall switch for all lights, irrespective of layer.
