[Resolved] Student project

Hello everyone.
Forgive my English because I am Canadian French.
I am writing on the forum to get information.

We are a group of students in the building and we would like to realize a project with 3D rendering Lumion.

Here is a short summary of our project.
A building of 12 condominium located on the edge of a lake.
Outdoor parking.
Plant Landscaping type boreal forest.
Normal city infrastructure.

My questions are as follows.

1- Is it possible to import into the Lumion software, the true relief (heightmap) the land on which we want to place our building?

2- If possible to do so, what procedures to achieve this?

3- What software we could use to do so?

4- Is there any tutorials that could help us achieve our project?

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond.
 Hoping all compliant.

Hi lebleuetok

Thanks for your interest in Lumion  :)  Your English is fine :).

...1- Is it possible to import into the Lumion software, the true relief (heightmap) the land on which we want to place our building?...
Lumion can import Heightmaps.  Refer topic HOW TO WORK WITH TERRAINS IN LUMION in LUMION 6: Quickstart Guide.

...2- If possible to do so, what procedures to achieve this?...
See topic referred to in 1. above.  You just click on the button Load Terrain Map in Terrain Tools (see pic 1 attached).

...3- What software we could use to do so?...
As the topic mentions in 1. above, you can make your own terrain/landscape in a 3D modelling application such as SketchUp, Blender, 3ds Max, Revit etc, and import it to Lumion.

If you want to create a greyscale Heightmap, then that's possible in SketchUp (there is a plug-in tool) or you can use other terrain software such as Terragen or DAZ Bryce, Blender?, World Machine.

...4- Is there any tutorials that could help us achieve our project?...
Sure is  :).  See the link at the topic of the forum - second menu Tutorials.

There is a Student version available through qualifying educational organisations.  Does your place already have Lumion?  If not, then ask your lecturer to make enquiries via our details and online form here.

Thank you very much for responding so quickly.

I took note of all the recommendations you give me.
I will go and follow your instructions to begin as soon as possible-our project.
We will use the free trial version of your software hoping to have enough time to complete our project.

We will also talk to our teacher for that you wonder how to get the student version of Lumion.

If I may, I have another question.

If ever we have not completed our project in the 30-day test period the free version of Lumion, we will transfer the work already done with the trial version of the Student Version, or we will have to start over?
We are so eager to start our project it would be regrettable to have to start over.

Thank you

Hi lebleuetok

Just to clarify; there are two 'trial' based versions, neither have a 30 day period:
1. The Demo version (available from the link in 'Try' top of forum), which is a Save Disabled, but no time limit.
2. A 7 day Trial version, available via resellers (generally for those interested in evaluating for purchase decisions, and not readily available for students (AFAIK)).

The Student product of the Educational Edition is not time limited, and is the similar to the Normal version but with Watermarks, see details here.
