I've added a music effect and selected a .wav file to add to my movie but i cannot get the music to play. I don't know if i have to keyframe the start and stop points. Can I get a link to show how to properly add to movie? thank you.

Hi John, you cannot preview the music in the actual movie - this is a technical constraint.

The only way to 'preview' it is to render a movie at the lowest quality level, i.e. 1 star quality, and in the lowest possible resolution (to save time), and then open it in a media player.

So do I still have to add any keyframing or anything? Or if the movie has been selected and appears as an "effect" then it will be in the movie after it's produced?

WAV files do not automatically fade out over the last few seconds of your movie, so you would indeed need to add keyframes.

Instructions:
Click on 'Entire Movie' (the big button in the lower left corner in Movie mode), add a 'Sound' effect, select the WAV file (by clicking on the pencil button in the effect panel), add a couple of keyframes at the end of the clip to make the music fade out (click here to see how) and then render the movie. Then open the MP4 file in a media player.

Alternatively, just follow the steps in this tutorial video (and add your own keyframes):
