PC:
1.
Quote
Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit Edition
Why not Windows 8.1 Pro or with free upgrade to it.
2.
Quote
Operating System Drive #1: 240GB ORIGIN PC Approved Solid State Drive
if you can push for a 480/500/512GB you will not have to manage that drive for free file space
3.
Quote
Operating System Drive #2: 1TB SATA 6.0Gb/s, 7200RPM, 32MB Cache
is that all? for the price H/D's are so cheap it should be at least a 2TG, probably 3TB
4.
Quote
Optical Drive One: 12X Blu-ray Reader and DVD Combo
are these really needed these days?  If you have one in the office that's all.  Not even needed now for reinstall Windows as that can be done via USB

Most important:
Quote
Graphic Cards: Single 6GB NVIDIA GTX Titan Black
What make of card? Asus, EVGA?  There are OK Titan Blacks and there are good Titan Blacks that have slightly higher specs but does cost a little extra.

Totally Important:
Quote
Free ORIGIN T-shirt: ORIGIN PC G8 T-Shirt XL
without this the thing will not work, just gotta have one  :D   :D  :-D  :+

Laptop:
1.
Quote
NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 880M (8.0GB)
Nice, it's a step up from the GTX680M, but not massively, probably equivalent to a GTX680 desktop.  The 8Gb will give plenty of room for large Lumion scenes.  Presentation and Viewer or Theatre real-time playback/presentation should be nice (relative to scene requirements).
2.  re Windows 7 again, MSI do provide Win8.1
3.  there's really only the Dell Alienware or MSI in the top end bracket for laptops to suit Lumion.

Thanks for review.
Heard of issues with win8 and been happy with 7. Do u recomm 8 for overall performance improvements?

What are the best Titan brands to look for and ones to avoid?

I will rebuild a spec today and look at better storage options.

Also adding 3 year warranties.

I really just want the shirt.  ;)

I have never had problems with v8, but that's not to say, but 8.1 would have 'corrected' most.  I wasn't that keen on the changes to displaying Libraries in Explorer, but it's minor as and liveable.

Best brands:  I suppose everyone has their own opinion, I think from my readings of some reviews, but totally unqualified opinion and research (and I make no recommendation), that EVGA seems to be a preferred maker and provide some top range options that get a bit more performance.

Once price and performance within that range is decided, I think reliability indicator of the maker, and then as everything else is pretty equal, for me it comes down to good reviews of fan noise and cooling ability.

Hi bob

Just did a quick scan, power supply is a little under requirements especially for a Titan ,  I would suggest change to at least 800W or 850W min.  Some users go for 900W or higher to ensure sustained supply.

Interesting calculator.  Bit complicated though.  Takes ages as all hardware requires entry to get a 'suitable' calc.  A simple three factor calc would be much more useful, except for diehards of course  :-D.

I input most of Bob's details and result was: minimum 606W recommended 656W, so that's close to supplied PSU.

Here's a link to PSU Requirements Table, much quicker to find out  :-D (they also make use of the calculator).

I would have gone for the original 850 quoted, so that the minimum 600W plus say 100W or 200W sustained use of Lumion in 3D rendering works out at about 800/850W.
