SketchUp, Google Earth Terrain Handling - Tutorials?

Hi,
does anybody has a link to a tutorial or similar where is shown how to work with the google earth implementation in SketchUp?!
What I´m interested in mainly is how to deal with the outputed textures and it´s postwork in order to push the resolution with own seamless textures to higher quality.

What´s also interesting: If such terrains made with GoogleEarth are free for commercial projects?

I don't know will this help but it's work for me. When you use Add google earth map on Sketchup ,The image that you'll get from "grab" button will get more resolution when you zoom closer.

and finally result


keep grabbing region close to your project with more resolution then export to lumion via collada.

If you make a camera flight in 2m height your/mine textureconcept it is not good enough. So you have to push the quality of the map at these regions which cannot be DOFed out.
That is the challenge.

I dont think we can expect quality that high from google map....
sometime I've to recreate whole scene again  :(

Hi, you've probably already met, but will assume that many do not, plugins to avoid overlapping images of google earth, when imported into sketchup, very useful when you want to make very large terrains, Greetings!  :-D

Thanks for that. Guess it is one step to a proper mesh and it´s texture. I downloaded and tried it out but I did not yet look behind how to cut overlapping terrain parts. Has anyone tried installing these scripts on SU 8?  The file extension for ruby scripts in 8 is .rbz not .rb.  I changed the file extension, but SU 8 would not install the script.

Not exactly. RBZ is a renamed ZIP file which will contain the RB file (and any other files/subfiolders some more complex plugins use).

So if you have an RB file, you have two choices:
  • Istall it the "old way" (copying it into the Plugins folder under your SU installation path)
  • Or zip it up, rename the extension to RBZ and use the new method to install it under Preferences > Extensions (which will do nothing else but unpack the RB file to the proper location, too).
