When you insert the object into another scene, the material changes will be there.

It is saved automatically. When you import an object it will be in your library. When you change the materials etc, it will be automatically saved in your library.

The custom imported library currently is very basic but it works very well. Maybe in the future we can make a distinction between imported models you only use for a specific project and objects you want to reuse in other projects. Currently all models are placed in a central library and are available in all other projects.
