Recover corrupted Mp4 File after power failure

Hi All / Lumion Team,

Last night I was outputting an mp4 file in Lumion video production. After about 4 hours of writing with only
6 mins left, there was a power failure and the computer shut down. When power was restored, I noticed that
Lumion still produced an mp4 file of 1.35gb size. However, I can't open this file as windows media player does
not recognise it. Is there a way that I can recover this file? If not, please include on the wish list "A FAIL SAFE"
mechanism for lumion. Could have rendered to images, may be that would have helped recover 99% of the rendering...

Regards,

Alickn

Perhaps the 2 posts at the bottom of this thread might help? I haven't tried the HD Video Repair utility but there's a trial version of it, so it might be worth a try...

(You're right, rendering images is safer than rendering MP4s - sorry to hear you had to learn this lesson the hard way :()

Hi Morten,

Tried the app from the site you mentioned. Didn't work. Thanks your effort though.

Kind regards,

Alickn.

I haven't found a way to repair damaged mp4s, either.

So nowadays I render to PNG sequence.

Is the final video quality better going this route rather than straight to MP4?

PNG is lossless, so rendering a PNG sequence gives you more control over the end result. You can then assemble the sequence in VirtualDub and use any encoder you like at whatever quality you choose.

Jpg sequence is fine too. Png is lossless but it's not needed because jpg already is far better quality than your final mp4 file.
