An object is always placed relative to the surface immediately below the mouse position, so will position at the height of that surface being x meters/feet relative to the Lumion terrain.
Part of the problem when placing 10 objects randomly is that their positions can be above different surfaces of different heights, so its difficult for Lumion to determine which surfaces the objects should be properly placed on, as the mouse is only ever over 1 surface at a time (although of course its not impossible to do

).
A workaround could be:
1. When copied the objects will conform to the height below the mouse, so move to the best place first.
2. Then you can quickly and easily adjust each by doing a small move again (to adjust exactly to current surfaces height) and then with F key to force each to the final orientation of that surface (excl trees).
Note: this works on imported models I tested, and so I guess should work with any terrain based models imported as well.
Of course for a small number like 10 objects its probably still quicker to place one at a time direct to the surfaces height when placed and moved and just make the placement random yourself.
