Processor usage?

I had a PC built specifically for Lumion. For whatever reason, they gave me a Xeon processor, which has a terrible score (1810). I have full green marks on all other aspects of hardware except this.

So I was just trying to get some more info on how Lumion uses the processor, so that I may gauge my need to upgrade. I have noticed over the few upgrades since I started using Lumion, that my score has gradually gone down with every update. However, I havn't detected any changes in performance, nor am I sure exactly what aspects of performance this affects.

So how does the processor score relate to the in-editor experience? My models get sluggish when I get multiple pages of materials. Also loading complex .dae's can take 5-10 minutes. Is this my processor's limitation?

I'm currently shopping for new IT services, and am cataloging all of over computer specs, so this would be a good time to go for an upgrade if need be.

hi Jared

don't come down too hard on me for this, i don't know shit about hardware, but i think they sold you a crappy processor.

cheers shaun

Jared

What was the Passmark score for your CPU?

The E5 is an Ivy Bridge so thats good, better than good for a good GTX 700 or Titan card.

It actually seems to do quite well in the Passmark list, afterall some of the others are new range.

I wouldn't mind having one, I see it can access up to 385GB memory, now compare that to i5/i7's that max out at 32GB, of course that's really nice for web server where RAM caching is a critical process, but...  :)

It probably doesn't do that well in the Benchmark because of it's speed, but it's 6 cores 12 thread!  8)

ps: not a space underscore or dash in the whole files name  :o   :o .  I hope you realise that file name will be converted to standard 8 bit files names automatically on 32nd October 2013 :D

Its 8046

I thought perhaps the benchmark was just seeing one of the cores. Does that mean that Lumion actually does use the other cores?

I opened up the editor on a bigger project and selected some materials, which looked like this on my resource monitor. If Lumion can only utilize one core in editor mode, the 2.0 core seems to be a bottleneck issue compared to the rest of my system.

HI Jared

re Passmark; I was wondering about the local score you got when you ran Passmark.

I dont think there is any scene in Lumion where the cpu is the limiting factor. Lumion is multi core-ish in the sense that it use multiple cores where it can. I belive the mp4 compression is optimized for multiple cores for example.

Sorry took so long to get back to you. Had to render out a bunch of stuff for a deadline.

CPU Mark from PerformanceTest 8.0 was 8084

Not a problem Jared, not a problem.

So the actual CPU is close to the Passmark users average.

I think the only way to answer your question on result of benchmark for the CPU is to ask Remko who developed the Benchmark Tool, so have passed this topic on to him, pending time as he works on v4 at present.

For comparison, my CPU (Intel Core i5-3570, @3.40Ghz, 4 core) Passmark is: 7186.
