@cpercer:
yes I have tried Fbx directly from Revit, but it does not work at all. so far I think the best option is Revit- export dwg - to sketch up - explode the model in sketch up , apply materials in sketchup and then import to collada dae to lumion. I wish I could export from revit directly. it is a lot of work to reapply the materials again.

A Revit plug-in would be very helpful. ( Sorry to say it but Twinmotion just released one.......... )

cheers

I just saw the video and that is what I need, A direct workflow from Revit....... I like the look of lumion better than Twinmotion but there are some aspects that i like from Twinmotion, like the object library, night lights, and of course the "REVIT EXPORT PLUGIN" THAT IS AMAZING!!! that will save me lotsssssssssssssssss of time.

hI EVERYBODY,

Here is the workflow i am using.

Revit 2011 export to fbx. Then fbx to 3DS max and then export to open colladae and then in lumion. Lumion detect each part of the model with a different material. The problem is that all materials are lost in lumion!
Has someone a solution to keep material in lumion or do I have to apply again materials in Lumion?

Thanks

Applying materials in Lumion works well.  I did similar routes as you the first couple of times I was tinkering with the software and found it easier for me to apply materials inside Lumion.  I prep materials in my modeling software and then apply them all Lumion.  Lumion imports FBX files so possibly you can cut your work flow down a little to get your models inside of Lumion.   Plus if you don't have all that material information to import to Lumion it makes the import file a bit smaller and faster to import and won't eat up as much RAM upon import.

But I don't know if there is a solution to the path you are taking...perhaps there is.   :)

In case you dont change the materials in max from mentalray to standard materials, its normal, because MAX does not allow that mentalray materials are exported from max, not in fbx or dae. There are some max scripts that can convert mentalray materials to standard materials in max, if you export then, it should work ok in Lumion.

I've heard good things about MultyConverter:
http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/multyconvertor

Has anyone had a chance to test this script on a Revit file with textured MentalRay materials yet?

There is also the free Autodesk FBX Converter to convert various file formats (scroll down to the bottom for a standalone version for Windows 32 and 64 bit):

(I would also try to import your FBX files directly however. I have had success with SketchUp > FBX files)

Hi ,
I am new here, so i want to say i like lumion a lot. BUT :)
I do all my work in revit and i tried revit > 3DS colada > Lumion ... it does work but i have another problem . As you can see in my picture i can add only few materials until my "+" button hide behind materials pictures and i can´t add more materials ...it is my fault? small display? 15,6 laptop or what is the problem ??

and also is possible to add the same material to all walls just in one selection ?? and to set another material to inner side of wall than to exterior side??

This was fixed ages ago - looks like you need to upgrade (Paying customers and Lumion Free users have got access to more recent versions).

Lumion can add materials to any surface as long as it has a unique material in your modeling application. So to answer your question, you simply need to assign 2 different materials to your exterior and interior walls to make sure you can apply 2 different materials to them in Lumion.
