Topic: Placing Cars etc on slope

Hi All. Can someone pls tell me if you can place a car on a sloping road? In my current eval model, Lumion seems to want to place the car on a level plane instead of the correct slope on the model and then the only rotate tool is for spinning around rather than changing the vertical rotation. Should Lumion be placing it on the angle?  Thx.

Yes it's possible to place a car or any object on sloping road or sloping face of a model.

Note that if you are trying to use the Select --> Transformation --> Place on Ground command then Lumion is not able to determine 'ground' other than that, that is the terrain.  So it would place the car at its current rotation relative to a point on the terrain, if flat or sloped.

It sounds like you have imported a model that includes your road which is sloped.  In that case you should be able to use the Move and sub tools to modify the height and rotation to suit the slope that is specific to your model.  Not sure why you are only getting the spinning around rotation though, you should be getting the Rotate Bank subtool as in pic.  Have included a quick set of pics of steps if helps.

An option could be to make the terrain the same slope as the model and then use the place on gorund, but that would be much more difficult to match slope than manually adjusting the rotation.

It used to be a little easier than that.  In SP1, holding F while placing an object automatically adjusted the object's pitch and bank to your surface.  Unfortunately, this convenient feature appears to be overlooked in SP2.  Maybe when the devs restore this functionality they can also make it work for multiple selected objects. 

Or maybe it does work, but with a different keystroke....anyone?

Ah, that's interesting, did not know of the special key.  Key F seems to still work in SP2 but it only works for me when placing against a Lumion terrain.

Also and unfortuneately then, it's only on that first placement, so would I be right in assuming if anything is changed or you want to move something to another place with different slope then there seems to be no fast 'correct' placement, it's all placement using modify rotation.

A "glue" command similar to 3dsMax would be very helpful here.
Especially when we have hundreds of vehicles in a large scene with sloping roads and parking lots.

The F key still works on terrain. On objects it's a bit more complicated but we could improve this feature in the future so it works on regular objects to. Probably will be a v2.0 feature though.

Hi all. Been away but back now to check your replies. And they're spot-on thx. I know what I'm doing now. pretty impressive this Lumion. Think I've got work talked into purchasing it. Thx again.
