Topic: Once collada file has been imported into Lumion I cannot add objects?

Hi!!

I need some serious  help! I have worked in lumion a few times from sketch up collada files.

I have a very large site I am doing and exported the collada file as per usual. The file size is 29.8MB.

Once the model has been imported into lumion, I cannot add any objects. The yellow box appears for example when I add a tree with the arrow pointed downwards. I click to place and nothing happens. I have tried this with ALL objects. I then tried to break the model up into 2 seperate exports to piece together. This time once imported I tried to again place an object somewhere on the model and it shows that yellow box where you would place the tree and it has the red lines saying it is 0.2?

I have no idea what to do at this point and REALLY need to add objects for an animation on a huge deadline! If anyone can help me out and let me know what I am doing wrong? Or what could be wrong with my model? I didnt think the file was to large?

First thing, check that you have all layers showing, or that you are working on a layer when placing objects that is shown.

I have made sure all layers are on before exporting as a collada. When the file comes in, it
is so far in the distance as well?? I have to zoom in for an extended period before I even reach the  model. I cant figure out what is happening. I also tried and was sometimes able to place trees but they had to be placed kilometres outside the model???

Hi Britz87, there is a cap on how far away from 0,0,0 you can place objects in Lumion, so please move the model closer to 0,0,0 in SketchUp before exporting it to Lumion.

Then turn on the FPS button in the Settings menu in Lumion to display the corresponding 0,0,0 position in Lumion (as indicated by red/green/blue axes), and make sure that the model is placed near the 0,0,0 position.

That definitely sounds like what the issue is. However, could you please explain what you mean though by moving the model closer to 0,0,0 in skup before exporting? Just need some clarification.

I have the model situated at 0,0,0 on the red, blue, green axis. So is there something else you meant by 0,0,0 because this didnt work

The model is of basically a city, so is it that the model is to large for lumion?

The limit is currently 2000m from 0,0,0, i.e., 4x4km. However, you can still move objects further away by using the position type-in window (Edit properties -> Position type-in), but you will begin to experience 'jittering' if you move models very far away from 0,0,0.

Thats interesting.  Placement with mouse of an object is limited to this value, but you can still have objects and move them further out to near the bounds of the world.

Did a couple of little tests, and couldn't PLACE an object (tested using Lumion buildings) greater than somewhere around 1895m.

Can then move out using the dialogue, and seems limit is greater than 30km, might be around 40km, but I was able to move and go to a building at least 30km out from center.

Morten re your "I can't remember what the current limit is, but I'll ask them next week"; must be at least 30km (vaguely recall Remko mentioning this figure but cant find now in forum search)
