[Resolved] New computer. Quadro or GTX?

My company is planning on buying a new computer to be used for Lumion 7 architectural presentation animations and to work on more complex Rhino3d models. It will be also used for Adobe CS and Autocad, but our normal workstations can handle that without any problem, for this one we want something that works better with Lumion than our existing ones.

Our IT guy isn't that familiar with Lumion so he recommended a Dell T3620 workstation with a Quadro M4000 graphics card. From my research, GTX cards seem to be more suitable. What would you recommend? Please help us make the right choice  :)

Thanks in advance

Hi Hsan, welcome to the Lumion Support Center! :)

Both GTX and Quadro cards are suitable for Lumion.

However, in terms of cost versus performance, GTX cards are a far better investment per Dollar.

I'd recommend that you click here and read some of our Knowledge Base articles to see how to pick a graphics card (and workstation) based on the expected complexity of the projects you'll be working on.

By the way, you posted your question in the 'Lumion 5.3 Demo' section. Have you already got a Lumion 7 license, or are you planning on buying one?

They will purchase a Lumion 7 license for the new machine and the new staff who will be working with it, I'm just the designated "guy with some computer knowledge" that double checks what our IT-guy is doing :).

We're looking at an I7, ssd+hdd, 16g ram, the only question is M4000 or GTX 1070? Both of these are in reach price-wise, we'll stay away from 3000$  big-boy Quadros for obvious reasons

Thanks for the additional information. :)

If you read the Knowledge Base article on graphics cards, we describe how to look up specific graphics cards on the PassMark website, and how the scores are to be interpreted in Lumion (Hint: the GTX 1070 wins hands down over the Quadro M4000 ;)).

Please also read the Knowledge Base article on the recommended specifications for workstation components as your choice of power supply, system memory and CPU can have a big impact on performance and reliability.

Let us know if we can assist with anything else.

Your subtle hint worked.  :D
The rest of the components, including the CPU are good enough so we'll go for the GTX build.
Thanks a bunch!
