Lumion hardware dongle?

Okay, I admit it, I am confused: I read somewhere in the forums that once you buy a license, they send you an hardware dongle?
Is this obsolete information, or does Lumion still uses a dongle?

I just bought a nice video card, and we are getting ready to buy Lumion, so our questions are:

- Are we going to get an activation code and activate the free Lumion we already downloaded?
- Is Lumion 3 upgrade free? (as I read around here)
- Can I install / activate Lumion on my desktop and laptop at the same time?

Thank you!

regards

I'm not from the staff, but I'll try to answer until they wake up:

-Lumion stopped using a dongle more than a year ago.
-After you purchase a license, you get a download link. You then install and activate the software using your forum username and password. Every time you open Lumion 3.0, it will require you to have an Internet connection active.
-If you purchase a Lumion 2.5 license today, the upgrade to Lumion 3.0 is free. However, some of the new features will be only for the Pro version.
-You can install it in both computers. Currently (version 2.5), you need to manually deactivate Lumion in one computer to be able to activate it in another, but Lumion 3.0 will make this automatically. Think of it more as an online service than software. You need to be logged in for it to work, and you can only be logged in from one place at a time.

This is all I know. Take it with a grain of salt and wait until the Lumion team wakes up for a more accurate answer. (They're in the Netherlands).

I am not a Lumion Team member either but to my best knowledge, you only need to be connected to the internet when activating (or deactivating) Lumion.

Activation/deactivation will change somewhat in version 3 however (according to "leaks" we could read on the forums).

Also, to my best knowledge, if you purchase Lumion 2.5 now (so close to the release of version 3), you will get a free upgrade but please, wait for an official confirmation of this by a Lumion Team member.

This is just to confirm that all of the above is correct - thanks Miguel! :)

You're right - if he is using 2.5, he'll only need an internet connection when he wants to activate or de-activate Lumion 2.5 on a new PC.

Activation/deactivation will change somewhat in version 3 however (according to "leaks" we could read on the forums).

True, as Miguel said, Lumion 3.0 will require a working internet connection every time you start it. However, you no longer have to remember to de-activate it manually.

Also, to my best knowledge, if you purchase Lumion 2.5 now (so close to the release of version 3), you will get a free upgrade but please, wait for an official confirmation of this by a Lumion Team member.

That's correct - the upgrade from 2.5 to 3.0 is free if you buy Lumion 2.5 now.

Excellent, thank you.

When I last went visit the Lumion Forums, I clicked on a "login" link, somewhere, which took me to an obsolete login page. My regular login info would not work. Then I noticed the address and there was  "backup" word somewhere in the beginning of the address.

Once I somehow got in, the forums were SPAMMED with advertisement of all kind of weird stuff, like shoes accessories... Not to mention Viagra ads...

In these "obsolete" forums I read about the dongle... and got obviously confused.

I quit and went back to Lumion, then Forums and log in again in the "current" forums, and everything was "normal".

One more question about v.3: in 2.5 my understanding was that the PRO version has, basically, more library content. Will v.3 be the same way? That is, pro (3K euro) will have complete libraries while regular Lumion (1500 Euro) will have smaller libraries?

Thank you

Yes that is the same. Exact content library of 3.0 will be put online later.
