[Resolved] Lumion 6.3 Trial - Oculus issue

HI,

I have installed the 6.3 trial in order to test the VR panorama features. I can create the file without issue.

I have the DK2 kit and installed the Oculus software. The Oculus is running fine, and works with demos etc.

When running the LVR file, I get a message:

Oculus - error code: -3001 (LibLoad)
Please install the Oculus software first!
"Oculus Runtime for Windows V0.8.0.0-beta"

I tried downloading this runtime, and when installed, It came up with errors and couldn't start. The error message in the Lumion view was different, but still did not start. The runtime also caused the main oculus software to stop, so i am now repairing that installation in order to get the headset working again.

Is there a guide to getting the lvr files to work.?

Thanks in advance

Hi arbdesign, thanks for getting in touch.

1) Did you make sure to uninstall all newer versions of the Oculus Runtime before installing version 0.8.0.0?

2) Which error messages did you get after installing Oculus Runtime 0.8.0.0 + running LumionVR?

Hi Morten.

Thanks for the prompt response.

No I just installed the runtime.

I have now uninstalled, as I am trying to get the Oculus working again.

Can you confirm if it is possible to have the standard Oculus software running, as also use Lumion VR?

Hi arbdesign

LumionVR will work with Oculus SDK 0.8.0.0 Beta.  It has been tested on Win 7 (64bit Pro+), Win 8.1 and Win 10 OS environments.

Oculus SDK 0.8.0.0 Beta was the last release prior to the consumer version releases, after LumionVR was first developed, so it is the current SDK that needs to be working.

What version of Windows are you using?

I would suggest trying to fully uninstall Oculus from your system.  Unfortunately we understand some components of Oculus can be difficult or impossible to completely remove to make it Oculus clean, but lets see how you go.

To fully uninstall you can try:
1. Go to a Windows Restore Point prior to the first install of Oculus (if available), or
2. If suitable Restore Point not available, then uninstal all Oculus and associated plugins from the Windows Control Panel.
3. Then install Oculus SDK 0.8.0.0 Beta.

Hi.

I'm on win7 64bit.

I can try to uninstall the Oculus software, and then install the SDK. If I do this, can I still run all the normal Oculus software? I need to be able to run the standard software.

Thanks.

Andrew

Hi Andrew

Which version of the Oculus software was installed when you originally set up Oculus?  Was it a newer verison than 0.8.0.0 or older?

..., can I still run all the normal Oculus software? I need to be able to run the standard software...
Which ones are you referring to?

Other demos and applications made for Oculus will run if they are compiled for the SDK in use.  This is an Oculus requirement.  Some will run without being directly compiled(set) for a particular SDK, but there is no guarantee given that they will run correctly.

So, in installing SDK 0.8 you need just test those other ones by running them, or check with the other software if it has any release notes as to which SDK it was compiled to.  There used to be a table of demos and applications on the Oculus site (in Experiences) that listed the SDK against each, but that seems to have sadly now gone with the release of the consumer version of Oculus Rift.

If you install the Oculus SDK 0.8.0.0 Beta and test it by running the Show Demo Scene from the Oculus Congifuration Utility (sits in the System Tray), then you should be able to run LumionVR without problem.

Hi,

I have only setup and installed the Oculus rift last week. To install, you go to the site, and run the installer.
In the app it says Oculus App Version 1.4.0.224375 (1.4.0.224996)

Once I install the SDK, this app does not start.

Hi arbdesign

The Oculus App Version 1.4.0.224375 is for the Consumer Version hardware of Oculus.  Although I gather it may support the older hardware of the DK2, it is not going to run LumionVR.

You originally mentioned you had the DK2 kit.  With the kit there should have been an install disk/USB that has one of the earlier SDK runtimes for Windows, hopefully for 0.8.0.0.

From your original post you said you installed 0.8 but it caused issues, so I gather you have 0.8.  If not, then download it from here: Oculus Runtime for Windows 0.8.0.0-beta.

Can you please confirm you have uninstalled or used a Windows Restore Point to fully remove the newer version of Oculus 1.4.0.224375.

After uninstalling or using a Restore Point, it's best then to reboot the PC and check that no parts of Oculus are still present by checking in the Control Panel -> Programs and Features listing of software.  And, that the Oculus Configuration Utility is not running in the System Tray.

Then install SDK runtimes for Windows, 0.8.0.0 beta.

Thank you for your perseverance.  Hopefully we'll get you up and running with Oculus and LumionVR.  Please be  assured we have had no issues with users running LumionVR and the Oculus 0.8.0.0 beta so far, so we just need to get your system sorted for the right versions  :).

If you still get difficulties, we'll ask our developer for some ideas on how to get things running for you.

Hi Again!

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, so I should only have the sdk installed.

I have no blue light on the headset, and get 'service unavailable' service crashed' in the oculus config utility.

Not having much luck at this stage.

Hi Andrew

No indeed,  :(  ::).

1. Check what is running in Oculus Configuration Utility: Help -> About.  Does it say Version 1.10 (SDK 0.8.0.0)?

2. Is a User Profile under User settings available to select or create one?

3.  Did you reboot after the install?

Fingers and toes crossed.

Our developer for LumionVR and GearVR found this Youtube video about cleaning out stuff left behind by Oculus after a so called uninstall, if needed:

Hi,

I tried it in another but no luck.

Yes I have rebooted...

How far away is an update that will work with the CV1 app?. Even if I get this to work, I am limited, as I cannot run the main app....

just saw your last post. Will have a look

Success!!

The cleanup info from the youtube clip worked. Thanks for your patience.

Rendered out a few test scenes - worked perfectly.

A few questions if I may..

1. When will a CV1 version be available.?

2. Will there be an update so you see the viewer through the Oculus headset. (so you can then move around and see animations etc...?

Thanks.

Hi Andrew

Great news, phew  :)  :)

Unfortunately we are not able to provide details on changes and future updates.  Other than, as you know, we did announce that the CV1 would be supported.

I can't give timeframes, other than to say we are working on an update and (to be vague  :-D) it's getting closer.
