[Solved] Lumion 3d running very slow on macbook pro mid 2015

I installed the trial version of lumion 5 and 6 on my macbook pro (mid 2015, AMD Radeon r9 m370m, 16gb ram, i7 2.7), but both run really slow, at 2-3fps. I am running this programs on windows 10 using bootcamp, all drivers updated. It is weird because when i run lumion using parallels it runs smoothly (though glitchy because parallels uses a virtual graphics card)... Bootcamp uses the actual hardware, so my question is why it is not running at a higher fps???

The benchmarking shows the graphics card, so its not like the program is not detecting it?

Please help, this is very frustrating.

All other programs and games run smoothly, so I guess the problem is just with Lumion and AMD graphics and drivers?

Thanks

Hi mass1986, before we proceed, please forward your Lumion 6 trial license number to us via email (morten [at] act-3d.com and peterm [at] act-3d.com) or via a private forum message to "Morten" or "Peterm".

Thanks in advance.

And  also mass1986, do you mean AMD Radeon R9 M370X?

It was lumion 5.3, wheres the trial number? I just got a download link, from which an installer downloaded the program, and during installation I was never asked for a trial number.

Hi mass1986

Lumion v5.3 is a Demo version, there is no trial or license number needed for that one.

However, you mentioned also using Lumion v6, and we only have a 7 day Trial which does carry a license, so it helps to get things off the ground to understand which product and which versions you are working with.  Please clarify.

Hi peterm,

Yes sorry for that! It was a demo version, the last one I installed was 5.3 (I thought version 6 was downloaded)

I have a MacBook pro mid 2015, AMD Radeon R9 M370X, 16gb ram, i7 2.5ghz

Lumion in windows 8.1 and 10: runs at 2-3 fps, it is very very slow.

Lumion in Parallels Desktop in OSX El Capitan: it runs very smoothly, there are some glitches when I place objects inside my sketchup model. When the scene has too many objects theres an error message that says that the graphics card is not supported. Parallels emulates a graphics card, the webpage says it is Parallels Graphics Driver.

thanks!

The M370X is a slow graphics card. It's just below the minimum requirement of 2000 PassMark points for editing simple scenes in Lumion, so we would highly recommend a hardware upgrade.

The other thing to be aware of is that it's possible that Lumion is using the IRIS integrated graphics card instead of the AMD card (even though the benchmark screen is stating that it's using the AMD card).

You'd need to check if you can force the MacBook to use the AMD card when running Lumion.exe (via the Catalyst Control Panel).

(Running Lumion in Parallels via OSX is not supported)

I changed the settings on the Catalyst control panel, specifically for the application (lumion) and it worked! it is running smoothly now. I'm gonna do some tests to see its rendering performance. The benchmark performance test also went up to 3600 and the intro video was running smoothly.

So for anyone who is using a MacBook pro with the same specifications:

1) open catalyst control center
2) click on preferences > advanced view
3) PowerPlay > maximize performance in both battery and plugged in
4) Gaming > 3d Application Settings > Add > search for lumion
5) in 3D Application Settings window > choose Lumion
- ANTI-ALIASING : Enhance application settings
- Anti - Aliasing method - Adaptive multisamplig
- Morphological Filtering : On
- Anisotropic Filtering: Use application settings
- Anisotropic Filtering level: Use application settings
-Texture: Standard
- Surface : On
- Wait for Vertical Refresh: On, unless application specifies
-OpenGL Triple Buffering: ON
-Tessellation Mode: AMD Optimized
- Maximum Tessellation: AMD Optimized
