Topic: Lumion 3.0 upgrade prices and discounts

Lumion pricing has become too hefty. Lumion started at an attractive price of 799Euros complete with all functionality. Lumion now costs 3499Euros for first time users. A person upgrading from lumion ultimate (once top of the range) now has to pay 1799 Euros if you do not catch an early bird at 1399 Euros. The price has risen by 400% in the last 2 years. I think Lumion team should just reveal what version 3.0 contains all at once. This one item per week revelation is not helping at all. Reveal everything so people can decide on whether to catch an early bird or not. Catch a bird with fewer wings or not. My apology for sounding hard.

I think these are just the problems that a small group of talented programmers face when trying to manage a successful program. They need to be steered by us the users as they are great at creating software but maybe could do better with the whole business of delivering the product. They are trying to be innovative and rather than us be combative if we could be a bit more accommodating and suggest what we do want, that would get us all further forward.

I too struggle with the price and have asked for a subscription option, I have no doubt the team will consider this and address it once the pressure of getting 3.0 out is over. I want a quality product rather than a quick response to every point I raise.

The key point is that I run my business on Lumion and have to upgrade as I want any improvements and have no doubt Act-3D will deliver as well as they have in the last versions. Business is tough at the moment Lumion is a deal maker for us week in week out. We have great products and Lumion shows our customers how they fit into their worlds.

The problem with letting out all the details early is that if any problems occur and not everything makes the cut they are letting people down.

So I want to be positive and ask the team how can I pay over a period of time, is subscription a potential option? Also I want version three and the opportunity to shape what that is and the way the Act-3D moves forward. So how can we help?

Don't get me wrong, I really like Lumion, it is a good tool! And I enjoy creating fast illustrations - but please be more serius/professional regarding updates and pricing.

I agree with jorgensen.

Lumion is a very good software but the update is not too professional (lack of information contained in lumion 3.0).

when you buy a computer ... you buy without looking information and eyes closed?

3dk has finally been banned after yet another troll post which we have deleted (his reputation had also reached -8 which I think is the lowest somone ever got, so he wasn't exactly contributing to the community).

This time he accused Act-3D of stealing money from customers and advised people to use other software.

I should mention that 3dk has never paid for a license, and to put it mildly, he does not have a great track record in terms of respecting copyrights.

Among other things, he is using a Lumion rendering created by one of our customers to promote and sell his own visualisation services (no credit to the customer is given).

We have forwarded this information to the affected customer so that they can take action if they wish.

You don't have to buy anything if you don't want to. Users who use the early-bird discount are sure that they want to upgrade anyway and benefit from it.

With all respect, it does not change the fact that, this early bird thing, without knowing what we get for our money, is unprofessional.

Please accept your customers as professional workers in professional firms, that have to argue for spending money. The customers are not hobby people, using lumoin for fun. Hack, Lumion is becoming one of the most expensive software in our company.  Your moved up a liga.

Welcome to monopoly where one rules certain areas of the market.

At first I was not amused about this too but then I realized that I just had choosen two years of additional 3dsmax subscription and I will not know what features will be in there. Another egg-spline or something more amazing?! Okay I'm in Beta for 3dsmax so I at least know what I will get next year...want to be in lumion beta too.

I think Act-3D should consider splitting up Lumion in two or products.

PRODUCT A
The core Lumion engine.

PRODUCT B
Different model packeges, e.g. north europa (I don't need palms ), south europa, asia, america and others

PRODUCT C
Special filters

Then one can combine the featueres that fits one best.

This way act3d can prevent users from feeling that they buy an expensive modelviewer, as someone allready mentioned, but can select the feateures that gives one most value for money - we all have different needs.

I like the analogy with the model-viewer. But this applies for most tools where you use models. But this is the business game with software. lets take Adobe for example. You pay same price in EUR as in USD. Or get 80% discount if you work on a institution. Licensing costs are very hard to estimate. All in all its question of personal value. I guess I will update this year too because next year it would be even more expensive like it is mostly if you skip one version. On the other hand I don't have much paying projects at the moment using Lumion.

I was a fan of the plugin system they did. If you need something just buy it. But maybe it didn't pay off for Act-3D. If most people dont buy the heavy price then they will rethink. Its that simple.
It is even not a smart move if they would release GI and reflections now with Lum3 because most innovation for next years won't be away and sales could go down.

Lumion 3.0 new features looked very promising with the introduction of cloud cameras, and cloud shadows. The news was very exciting. I am however, beginning to get disappointed that the momentum seems to have been lost. The new features seem to be focused on content, rather than functionality and trickling in at a very slow pace. Please lumion team, give us at least one or two wow! features to keep the fire burning! We all would like to hear that Lumion can now import complex animations! or the movie editor now has sound editing capabilities! or terrain tools now have smaller brushes! road tools, reflections! or transparencies are now possible in all materials. If any of the above mentioned items were given, I do not think anyone would complain much about Lumion's current pricing. Furthermore, I think you should take people serious when they complain about cost. Telling them not to buy or buy alternatives is not a solution. We are all here with lumion because we believed lumion had something different to offer.

I never needed to visit One. Now Act3d forces their clients to go for broke minimum 699,- - sink or swim.
This is alarming. And alarming is that I do not have the feeling that you take all the freaks and fans of Lumion3d seriously. You do not give feed back. Pity.

For those I would just like to say: Relax and wait until the release date. By that time you'll have a nice overview of everything and it will be easy to decide.

I'm sure Lumion 3.0 will be a huge improvement so I'm confident event the most skeptical people will love it. However, as long as Lumion 3.0 is not completely finished, Act-3D can not provide a complete list of features and specifications yet. The early bird discount is for those who are willing to take a leap of faith and trust Act 3D will deliver a top notch update.
