Laptop with 8GB VRAM or 32GB RAM?

To use lumion 5 we need "Minimum 5,000 PassMark points dedicated graphics card and 6GB memory"
And:
"System memory (RAM) is extremely Important if you are trying to render complex scenes in Lumion. The RAM limit in the 64-bit version of Windows 7 is as Follows. Windows 8 has even higher limits. For That reason, it is highly . recommended that you 'use system memory as much as you Can Afford Also bear in mind That the CPU is not used much while rendering still images and video - it's mainly used for compressing frames rendered after They Have Been. "

This is why I do not know whether to point to something like "Clevo P650SG" (4GB VRAM and 32GB RAM, NVIDIA 980M) or "P35X v3" (8GB vRAM and 16GB RAM -max-, NVIDIA 980M)...
Between these two options, which would you recommend to use Lumion?
THANKS!!!

Hi arpas

Thanks for your interest in Lumion.

To clarify:  5000 Passmarks is for

VERY COMPLEX SCENES IN LUMION
.

Will the type of scenes you create be very complex?   That is, large to very large areas, complex models, lots of objects, many plants and other entourage, multiple complex buildings with full interiors?

Although system RAM is important anything from 16GB should be fine.  That is, we have not heard of any cases where impact of amount of RAM has caused issues for the rendering process once more than 12 GB is installed.

We are not able to recommend specific brands etc of PC.

In terms of configuration, an 8GB VRAM GPU will mean you have sufficient capacity to meet the requirements of complex scenes.  Noting that even the highest specifications can be reached if the user creates scenes that push the boundaries and add too many objects.  In most cases where that can happen though, and, if the GPU is capable to handle, it will just result in slower response and longer render times.

Can I ask about the requirement for a laptop because laptop based GPU's are substantially less in performance than their counterpart desktop GPU.  Compare Passmark of GTX 980M of 6404 with GTX 980 of 9757.  If portability is not a clear business case then you may want to consider the desktop option.

We greatly appreciate your careful response!

yes, thanks for your clarification.

"¿Will the type of scenes you create be very complex?"
If you want you can see the attach. It is made in sketchup. Maybe you can judge for yourself the complexity.
Indeed, my point is not to reach a maximum of detail in the interior. Perhaps some of the interior areas can have more detail than others. Anyway, I think you can also do a "change of motion" and create a different scene to show interior.

"We are not able to recommend specific brands etc of PC."
Ok, I understand. But necessarily having to choose between having more VRAM or more RAM (can not have it both ways), I do not know what I should prioritize. By your answer I understand that in this case any of the two cases would be sufficient. Right?

"Can I ask about the requirement for a laptop because laptop based GPU's are substantially less in performance than their counterpart desktop GPU."
Yes I know. But I tend to change my place of work and need to have the computer with me.

If you have some other type of observation is welcome.

Thank you very much again.

RAM is fine on both, so the one with the more VRAM suits Lumion better.

Indeed, there's always options to in Lumion to achieve the desired outcome.

Your scene looks like somewhere around moderately complex plus a bit.  :-D  Always best to be conservative and allow for other projects with more demand, and still have capacity with the PC.

All the best with your final decision, purchasing Lumion and doing some Lumion visualization projects.
