[Awaiting Reply] Issues with importing a model

Hello,

I have just installed Lumion Trial and I'm trying to import my model from Archicad, but nothing shows. When I try to delete the model, it appears as a small coloured ball, but nothing else. Is it a limitation of the trial version or am I doing something wrong?

Hi Dragos

It is not a limitation of the Trial versions.  It is most likely a problem with how the export has been done from ArchiCAD.

Please follow the instructions in Step 2) of our FAQ topic: How do you get technical support? on registering your license.

Also please let us know the missing information so we can evaluate the problem, see  How do you get help with import/export questions?

I think I got the issue: it seems the export from Archicad takes a strange origin point for the model as an anchor. When placed, the object is somewhere far away. I fiddled with the dimensions (thought maybe something went wrong with the export and it's really tiny) and when I made it smaller, the distance from the origin decreased as well and the object got in the view window. I don't know how it considers that origin point. I tried fiddling with the Archicad origin, but nothing changed.

When you place the model in Lumion it uses the imported Project Origin as set in ArchiCAD as the placement point.

So if the physical model is very far away from Project Origin then in Lumion it also will be far away.

You need to move the model close to the origin, then import it again (Reload).

If you are still having problems then send us the ArchiCAD file.  We will need for you to complete the two items I mentioned in my previous post.

Hi Dragos, if you installed the 'ArchiCAD to Lumion Bridge' exporter, there are two .DAE export options in ArchiCAD: the native .DAE exporter and the Lumion .DAE exporter.

Can you confirm that you exported the model via 'File' -> 'Save as' -> 'Lumion Collada File (.DAE)' in the export settings window?

Hello,

Apologies for not managing to complete the required steps yet, will sort it.
Regarding the origin issue, moving an entire project in archicad is rather cumbersome, but the archicad origin point can be moved itself easily - and it's what I tried, but the export didn't seen to take it into consideration. I'll building something in a new file starting from the actual origin and see if that's the issue. Moving the project I tried with already is no longer possible, since I moved the origin to try solve the issue and have no clue where it was before :)). Regarding the export options, I only have the Lumion .dae one in the Save as Menu.

So far I love the plants in the software (always a pain in the ass), but would love the possibility of a plan view to place them. Moving the camera around is rather awkward too, and there seems to be no way to set a camera at a certain height (for example if I want to make an eye level view). This could also work with a plan view where you can place cameras.

Thanks for the update and feedback Dragos.

I'm wondering off top of head if you have an ArchiCAD version perhaps 15 or 16?  The origin problem rings a bell for a few users some years ago, but does not seem to be the case now. And if I recall, moving everything close to world center was the only option, a bit tedious but there was some method.  I would have to research to locate that now.

If you are using a more recent, then of course ignore the above  :-D

But as you can see, it helps to have those details as requested, so we can provide further help  ;)

Hi paritosh7213

Your post is about SketchUp, this topic is about ArchiCAD, so your post has been split to a new topic: Issue with importing a SketchUp model
