internet connection to run Lumion

Hi
I just bought and installed Lumion.
The big problem I see is that an internet connection is required to run the software.
I have clients I must visit in places where internet is not available. Sometimes I have to stay 2 or even 3 days. How in the name of God am I going to work there???
Besides that, internet connections are sometimes down just simply because provider's problems. So, can I not work at that time? Should I call the Clients or Competition juries to ask them to give me more time because the internet is down and my software does not work with out it?
Come on! ...Is this serious?
I have bought the standard version to try it and see if it is worth to go Pro.
This issue certainly put me off that.
How can I trust a software that it will be available only sometimes.
Lumion guys must solve this.

Not very happy customer

Hi pieterx3

Welcome to the forum and user community.

The license system was implemented to help solve some of the problems with other software licensing methods, such as dongles, serial numbers and illegal/cracked softwares etc.

If you are not able to connect due to internet restrictions, then you can easily get Emergency Activation Code to activate Lumion.

Note that once Lumion is activated, there is no need to maintain the internet connection, until you need to close down and release the license.

Please see the Support Lumion web site page, topic Activation, if you ever need to get an Emergency Activation Code.

Please read this post (Licensing and Installation Board sticky) from Arthur who looks after the licensing system, READ THIS FIRST: About Lumion 3 activation.

HTH.

The emergency code works if your computer has been recognized before. You can't use it for your first activation (but if you are travelling that should work). To obtain the code you still need internet (for instance your smartphone), since it is meant for bypassing local connection errors. The system is planned to be extended with SMS code functionality.

Hi

The big problem I see is that an internet connection is required to run the software.
Note that we state the requirement of an internet connection clearly on the product information page, the product specifications page and info on the faq. If you missed that and think Lumion is not applicable in your situation, I suggest you request a refund at sales [at] act-3d.com.

And lastly, if you're presenting your project on a laptop PC, simply start Lumion on your laptop before leaving the office, then use the Hibernate option in the Windows Start menu. When you resume Windows, Lumion will be exactly where you left it and won't need an internet connection unless you need to restart Lumion for some reason. There's more information here.

I read in the specification that internet was needed to run Lumion, but I honestly thought it was for an only first time to activate the software and not each time you start or quit.

I thought about claiming a refund but I have decided to keep the package, although I will not use it for very important things but rather for fast previews to clients or us. But definitely I will not upgrade to pro or future versions while this issue remains.
I travel often to places were there is no internet and not even cellular network (you would be surprised) and computers always have the risk of crushing. Therefore the risk of a computer crashing on a place without internet in the moment you must need it, it is very present and I can not run that risk. It would be an awful waste of money.

I think that if Lumion wants to insist with their emergency code. then It should provide their clients with a set of emergency codes (20 or so) to dispose at their convenience when need it. Once those
codes were spent then the client should be able to request a new set of them.

Well, thanks anyway for the answers
