A lot of virus scanners will scan a file as soon as it's been downloaded via http. I know AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials do this. 1.7 gb is a mighty big file to distribute over the internet. My guess is that somewhere between when the file finishes its download and when the virus scanner begins the scanner hangs. Could be that the size of file is too big for the scanner to work. It could also be something between the OS, the browser and/or the virus scanner. I really don't know, but I think you might be able to avoid this issue by using FTP which often avoids the virus scanner entirely. I'm certainly not an expert on this topic, but it's probably worth a try.
