It might help other members if you say which version of Lumion you are using, and also show some of the images you have rendered, along with the settings.
Lumion is not a raycast renderer, so your expectations about what is or should be a realistic image and lighting may need to change a little. That said, there's certainly plenty of Lumion renders that have really great quality, comparable (some would argue) with or close to VRay or mentalRay.
Using Sun Light in combination with Global Illumination, HyperLight, and when required well placed Omni Lights to add further lighting characteristics is what is generally used.
