Topic: How can I create glass with bump?

My goal is to create glass blocks. I like the fake refraction produced by the water and waterfall shaders. Unfortunately there's no static shader that is also transparent AND has bump.

I'm stuck in Version 1 "Ultimate", by the way.

Yes i think you cannot make semi-transporent textures or colors. It was possible in past versions, and now developers exclude this options. So i can't make translucent patterned or coloured lamp-shade, for example.

Semi-transparent materials have never been offered in any version ever.
But you can sort of fake as some video has previously shown in the gallery.

A short while back (1576 iirc) I did a quick study on Lumion glass.
When I used deformed planes (bit of noise or so) and stacked those on top of eachother,
the results were quite ok-ish. For more complex shapes it helps to shell/clone/resize a copy
as a subsurface innershape. I'd guess the same technique is aplicable to glass blocks, if you
can spare the extra polys

For simple shapes the polyoverhead isn't huge. See attached screengrab.
It also shows 1, 2 and 3 stacked planes in the cabinet so perhaps the above
example makes a bit more sense that way. But yeah..workaround ofc.
Reckon would be a nice subtitle for Lumion. Lumion Ultimate Workaround Edition

But there's no actual refraction, right? You just play with reflections.

All I really want is a shader similar to the water/waterfall one, but static instead of moving. That should be enough to fake warped glass.

The Waterfall material has distortion (set Bump Factor to 0 to make it static), but it will fade out near the edges.

So yeah, a workaround for sure

Aaron's example looks like a better solution though.

Morten, I tried with both V1 Ultimate and V2 Free, and when I set the bump to 0, the distortion disappears.

I should have mentioned that the shape of the object, ie, the difference between the normals of adjacent polygons, will affect the amount of distortion. The more irregular the surface is, the more distortion you'll see.

Morten, I tried with a highly irregular mesh but saw no distortion at all. Finally I decided to give Aaron's technique a try, and it worked wonderfully. Thank you, Aaron!
