Hexadecimal copy-paste doesn't work!

Hello

No one seems to have any issue copy-pasting hexadecimal code into Lumion material colour editor, but it never worked on mine!

I did not include '#' symbol. I simply Ctrl+C from a paint website then Ctrl+V on the far right bar in Lumion but always returns the colour with RGB value of R 0 G 65 B 131 (navy colour).

What am I doing wrong? can anyone please help me!

Cheers

It should be working just as you describe.

If you paste the value to a text editor, what is that text?

What web site so that I can test?
Also, which version of Lumion are you using?

Hi
I used website http://www.resene.co.nz/swatches/preview.php?chart=Resene%20special%20palette%20-%20Waikato%20Coastal&brand=Resene&name=Forest%20Green

and my Lumion is a 4.5.1 (not free version)

I've done  Ctrl+C as shown here, and the colour Lumion returns is navy, as shown on the image.

Please help me!!

Hi thomaswf

Thanks for the reply.

Make sure your mouse pointer is directly over the right-hand color bar and it should work.  I have tested using the value from the web site, and it's working in same version OK for different colour swatches for Colour and Standard Materials etc.

From your screencapture it seems like that is what you have done, so the only other option I can think of at the moment, is that the Windows Clipboard is not allowing you to paste values with Ctrl + V.  Are you running some other Clipboard settings utility or have re-assigned the keys Ctrl + V to some other action?

Could you please add your Lumion 4 license key to your forum Account (click here, scroll to the bottom and enter your license number).

Thanks for registering your license.

One simple test would be to copy the value, then paste it in to a plain text editor such as Notepad.  If it pastes correctly there, then try pasting to Lumion.

Hi Peter
Thank you for the reply. I followed your instruction to first paste the code onto a notepad, then copy that from notepad and paste onto Lumion. It seems to work by taking the intermediate step! Very strange though.

Thanks heap! Hopefully in the future we can manually compute the RGB numbers straight into Lumion, that will save a lot of work for us!

Regards

Thomas

Good to hear you have a solution.

Can I get you to check though, the same steps except do not copy from Notepad.  It may be that the copy from the web page is picking up some other HTML encoding.  I have looked at the code of that web page and it looks clean for directly copying and worked here, so would be interested to know, thanks.

Hi
I had a number of experiments. The strange thing is, sometime it worked (straight from website to Lumion), and sometime it didn't.

I noticed, when I pasted the code from a webpage to notepad, sometime the paste-operation added an extra space after the code (even though the computer screen shows only the hex code highlighted) . This may have caused the pasting error in Lumion.

I tried both Windows Explorer and Mozzila Firefox. The result didn't seem to depend on the browser type.
I also tried to highlight from left to right, then also right to left. The paste error didn't seem to depend on the direction of highlighting (copying) either.

Anyway it's working now, so that's great!

I also found a 'sure' way to copy/paste the hex-code.

I think when did the copy-operation before, I over-shot the highlighting right across to the right side of the webpage (even though there's nothing to copy or highlight).

I discovered that when I put the cursor over the hex-code then double click, it only selects (highlights) the hex-code (without # or extra space).

This method seems to work without failure.

Wonderful.

Thanks for the extra testing and sharing the fail proof solution.  This will also be useful for others wishing to do same.   :)
