General Questions - Deciding whether to purchase

My company is looking to buy this software but we have several questions that we are trying to get answers for before making the purchase.

1. Our sketchup models that we would import typically contain a lot of lines that are not actual objects (thin lines representing reveals, breaks in materials, brick joints, etc.). Is there a way to export a view from lumion that is JUST black and white, hidden line view similar to sketchup????

2. concurrently, is there a view setting that ONLY shows shadows (no edges, materials, or other colors) so that we can export various views with different looks and independently adjust them in a program like photoshop?

3. is there a way to import pre-setup model views (scenes) from our sketchup files???? we have a project set up with all the render views and do not want to have to try to re-create all 40 of them in Lumion......

Thank you!

Elliot Young

Hi Elliot

Thanks for the interest in Lumion.  :)

1. No, but there are a number of (cool) Artistic and Sketch Effects.  The Blueprint Effect for example (shown here without grid), might get the closest.  See attached pics 1/2/3.

It's possible to export Edges from SketchUp using the Collada exporter (our direct SkUp file import does not support edges import).  However, the lines may not show as you want.  There is one member of the forum that I recall uses some SketchUp techniques to do something similar with lines.

2. Nothing for Only shadows.  You do have the ability to export standard maps used in post-processing: Depthmap, Normalmap, Specular Reflection, Lighting (see pic4), Sky Alpha and MaterialID.

There is also a Sun Study Effect that provides world location for animating the Sun and Shadows in an MP4 video animation.  So you can do things like animate the Sun from morning to night and see the Sun light and the shadows animated over time.

3. No.  That has been suggested by some other users and is on our wishlist.  Some users of SketchUp find that they do the modelling in SketchUp, but now leave rendering views to Lumion.  Perhaps some other SketchUp users may also want to comment.

Three no's unfortunately  :(.  Hopefully you see that there are many other advantages, and new opportunities that Lumion will provide as a visualization software to extend your company's interest in the product.

Apart from the Demo version, there is also a 7 day Trial version available via local resellers should you want to look in to things in more depth.  The 7 day Trial is not save or feature limited, and is the same as the Pro version.
