Hi again guys,

Another question for you, regarding material mapping this time. Would we be able import an array of piers and assign a material so that each pier has identical material mapping?  I have attached an autocad screenshot of what our goal is.

After importing this array of piers into Lumion, I tried to put a brick material onto the piers and no matter how much I try to adjust it,  the spacing of the bricks are all different on each pier. (See attached)

I saw that sliding the scale to zero should engage the imported material mapping coordinates but when I try that, my pier materials simply don't show.

Thanks again for your help!

Hi ErgoArchitecture

Have you applied a texture in AutoCAD to the columns, or is it only a surface pattern/hatch pattern?

Given the texture is not applying out when the Scale slider value is 0, indicates there are no texture mapping coordinates for the model.  Those coordinates need to be set within the 3D modelling application, where standard box mapping applied in Lumion is not suitable for the surface texture.

You would need to find a similar brick texture to use in AutoCAD as a 'dummy' placement texture to the ones you might want to choose from the Lumion Materials Library.  One that had similar image dimensions and brick scaling to the hatch pattern, you can see the dimensions in Lumion when you hold the mouse over the textures thumbnail preview.  Many are 1024x1024.  I think occasionally some users will also render out in their 3D software a hatch pattern to make a texture for use.

P.S. Try zipping + attaching the DWG file if it's smaller than 10 MB, so we can take a look. Alternatively, please upload it to a file host, e.g. WeTransfer.com, and post a download link, so we can take a look. Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys,

I applied an Autodesk material in AutoCAD and mapped it using a box mapping method from the AutoCAD knowledge base.

Is this an appropriate way for mapping materials for Lumion to recognize once the DWG is imported?

I have attached the DWG file we are using, for you to take a look.

Thanks

Yes, all mapping methods in AutoCAD are supported in Lumion.

I have attached the DWG file we are using, for you to take a look.

It looks like it wasn't attached. Try zipping it to make sure it's smaller than 10 MB. Alternatively, please upload it to a file host, e.g. WeTransfer.com, and post the download link, so we can take a look.

Thanks in advance.

We have quite a few more questions regarding specific material mapping and lighting for our situation that might not be very useful for everyone else's case.  Should we keep posting them here as new topics or is there a better place to ask them?

Thanks

Hi ErgoArchitecture

Apologies for delay in replying.

Sounds like they are best as separate topics, thanks for asking.

Hi ErgoArchitecture

The material applied to the columns - Masonry CMU is a color and Relief based material only.  It contains no texture for the Masonry part of the material, which is what Lumion uses to read the texture mapping from.  (pic 3 and 1/2 )

If I add a texture to the Masonry material (pic 4) instead of a color, then it imports with texture mapping in to Lumion OK (pic 5).

I can then change the material to one in the Lumion Materials Library and with the Scale set to 0 it uses the texture mapping assigned in AutoCAD 2017. (pic 6)

I'm not sure why the Scale of the texture shows differently in AutoCAD Realistic view.  However, the masonry or bricks etc are all the same for each column which was the main problem in your original post.

An example of another AutoCAD material that imports correctly is pic 7.  You will see that it displays on different columns.  Your 3D Solids and also my added 3D Solids and Mass Elements.

Hope this helps get to grips with the materials that can be transferred from AutoCAD to Lumion.
