Lumion 7 creates .ls7 files...
Lumion 8 (I assume) creates .ls8 files?
Can Lumion 7 read Lumion 8 files?
Can Lumion 8 read earlier version Lumion _ files?
Is there a way to "save back" to Lumion 7 from Lumion 8?
What happens if I work in Lumion 8 and use "Lumion Content" (like objects or backgrounds) that aren't in Lumion 7... Will Lumion 7 be able to pick up those items?

Thanks

Hi wojocad

Please see Lumion 8.0 released

Quote
COMPATIBILITY
Please note that scenes and models saved in 8.0 are not backwards compatible with earlier versions.
That is the same with almost all software.  You go forward, but not backwards, as there is noway for older software to know about and process things in newer versions.

So, yes version 8 can read earlier versions.  However, the support for features such as some effects changes, so they sometimes need to be edited or removed and added back in.

No.  If you have V8, why would you want to go back to V7?

No.  Again as in previous answer, why would you need to?

Uhhh... because you work in an office with multiple versions of Lumion and some people have v.7?

Not even a little bit true for Rhino 3D, photoshop etc.

This lack of backwards compatibility is in the process of killing a project in my office because I work remotely with a newer version while the office has L7. Thanks.

Hi FutureLandscapes, thanks for the feedback.

As Peter already mentioned, it's not possible to load Lumion 8 scenes in older versions, and given the fact that your colleagues are working with Lumion 7, it sounds like you'd be better off using Lumion 7 as well.

Please forward your Lumion 8 license number to uploads[at]lumion.com (replace [at] with @), so I can ask my colleagues if something can be done to help you out.

Thanks in advance.

The office computer admin handles all licensing in the office. My computer is joined remotely to their Network with a VPN. I believe there are several floating licenses that get assigned and I don't have access to that info. Just so I'm clear, your professional above is to downgrade? That seems... counter-productive.  ???

No problem, in that case please forward the name of the company you're working with plus the IT admin's email address to uploads[at]lumion.com (replace [at] with @).

There are numerous changes to the Lumion 8.0 scene file format (and other file formats in use in Lumion 8.0) that are incompatible with older versions. There is no way to save a Lumion 8 scene file in Lumion 7 format.

So, if your colleagues are using Lumion 7.5, then you should use the same version.

We can (probably) assist with that if you forward the above-mentioned information.

Thanks in advance.

Well I'm not in charge of the office, so I'm certainly not going to tell them to downgrade everyone. They have people working in China, the States, Canada... I think if they want to make changes to their arrangement they can do it themselves. I'm just bringing your awareness to the problem, which is, downsaving a file comes standard with every other software that we use and this is a real problem for people who work collaboratively.

Now.. If you want to offer the company I work for a free upgrade for all our units to Lumion 8... then by all means I'll tell them that and give you their info!

Hi FutureLandscapes

As Morten mentioned

Or just simply ask them to contact us so we can help both you and your colleagues in the office with a best working option.

I'm sure that should be no problem.

Ah, that's not what I was alluding to.

If they let you use Lumion 8.0 via a VPN, there is possibly a way to let you use Lumion 7.x instead. However, for that to work, we'd need to take a quick look at the license database. For that reason, it would be great if you could please forward the company name and the name of the IT administrator to uploads[at]lumion.com (replace [at] with @). Without that information, we're unfortunately unable to help you any further. :-\

As mentioned earlier, your feedback has indeed been noted. Thanks again for making us aware of it.

Now.. If you want to offer the company I work for a free upgrade for all our units to Lumion 8... then by all means I'll tell them that and give you their info!

Will that be with or without a cherry on top? :-D
