We are working on a joint project with another architectural firm who uses Lumion 3 PRO, and need to know if would be able to open their Lumion file if we only had the standard Lumion 3?

Hi werarchitects - yes, that's possible.

If you have the latest version of Lumion (3.1.2) they can export the scene in LS3 format which you can import in the standard version of Lumion.

How about the libraries which are not in the Standard Version, will it appear as ?

No for un-matching objects.

If the other versions include the matching object, then it will appear.  Otherwise, any Lumion Library content used in the Pro version is not available for the other version.

You get the red question mark showing a missing object.

This  excludes the Lumion Viewer which contains matching objects to the Pro version.

This is when you open the files directly as a scene, if the scene is packaged in Pro as an LS3 then all content is contained within the LS3 (see further Mortens comments below).

Note also that it is advisable to always be using the exact same version numbers to avoid differences in updates.

Just to clarify:

Let's say you save an LS3 file in Lumion Pro and the scene includes models from the Pro-only stock object library.

If your client loads this LS3 file in Lumion (Standard) all models will be included.

The idea behind this is that people will be able to use Lumion (Standard) for rendering scenes made with Lumion Pro. It's a relatively recent change which I believe was introduced in Lumion 3.1.

The only restrictions are:
  • You can't render sounds in Lumion (Standard).
  • You won't be able to add new Pro-only models to the scene.
