Morten,

I have a brand new $3,000 dollar MSI GT72S Dominator Pro G Dragon Laptop.  When Lumion 6.0.1 runs its benchmarks it rates my GPU low and my processor low but both have very high PassMark points.  This  benchmark rating (435) should not be low.  Why is Lumion 6.0.1 benchmarking these so low?

Hardware:
I7-6820HK Processor (9,051 PassMark Points)
32 GB RAM
GeForce GTX 980 with 8GB RAM (9,750 PassMark Points)

Hi jakester_29

Your laptop specifications sound great, a GTX 980 with 8GB, sweet  :)   :-9

Please see our Knowledge Base Article: Why is your GFX Score so low in the Lumion Benchmark test?, especially, follow the link regarding laptops to make sure Lumion is using the GTX 980 dedicated card.

If you are still getting low scores, please attach both the Benchmark Report (screencapture) and the Lumion DXDiag Report to a post.

Can you provide feedback on the Lumion performance in general using this laptop?

I'm looking to purchase something similar in the near future for work.

I wish someone like Alienware would make one with the GTX980 version but I think they are pushing their accelerator box instead.

so strange,
i've got a similar lap top (the same but not in "dragon" version),
my benchmark is 3257

A Benchmark score of 435 points means that it's using the slower Intel HD Graphics 530 graphics card, so as Peter mentioned above, jakester_29 needs to assign the GTX 980M graphics card to Lumion.exe.

Hi supri

I'm not able to find any reference in Passmarks to a GeForce GT 940MX.  The GeForce 940MX only has a Passmark of 1223, and a minimum of 2000 is required.  The closest GeForce GT listed is a 940GT.  If it is a GT then that is a lower performing graphics card than the GTX.  As it is also an M series for laptops then only a GTX 970M or above is really suitable.

To double-check, please attach to a post the Windows Diagnostics (DXDiag) Report. Refer our Knowledge Base Article: How do you attach a diagnostics report to a post?

The CPU is also on the slow side  :(.

I'm looking for a new pc for Lumion. I saw some laptops and I want to know if these specs are good to work without many problems (doesnt need to work on higher quality). But I'm brazilian, and good laptops are pretty expesive, so, and looking for a better cost-benefit.

SPEC 1:
  • Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ Kaby Lake
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050TI GPU 4GB
  • 16 GB RAM DDR4 (2400 MHZ)
  • SSHD 1 TB com 8GB SSD
  • Windows 10
  • Price: R$6110,00 or US$1909,00

SPEC 2:
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU (6GB GDDR5)
  • Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ Kaby Lake
  • 16 GB RAM DDR4 (2400 MHZ)
  • SSHD 1 TB/8GB SSD
  • Windows 10
  • Price: R$7358,00 or US$2299,00

SPEC 3:
  • NVIDIA® GeForce 940MX 4GB GDDR5
  • Intel® Core™ i7 7ª Gen i7-7500U
  • 16 GB RAM DDR4 (2400 MHZ)
  • SSHD 1 TB
  • Windows 10
  • Price: R$4300,00 or US$1343,00

Im looking for the SPEC 1 PC, but, will i have many issues if i buy the spec 3 pc?

Hi Eduardo, welcome.

Which version of Lumion are you using? (This is displayed on the Settings screen)

Hi EduardoMendes

Thanks for that information.

Unless you have very demanding requirements for a laptop, I would suggest that you are going to get much better value for money with a desktop.  Desktop PCs give a better performance compared to the same for a laptop.

In terms of the laptops you list, it's quite clear.  The GTX 1060 provides the best performance (8716).  Then the GTX 1050 Ti (5745).  The GTX 940MX (1227) is unsuitable for Lumion.  Check out the Passmarks here.

The GTX 1060 also has an extra 2GB of graphics memory so you can do slightly more complex Scenes.  See our Knowledge Base ArticleWhich graphics card do you need?

Note, both will result in the same 'quality' if quality means final look and resolution.  But the one with better performance and memory will let you do more in terms of adding entourage, effects (for added quality), and complexity/detail of the buildings you design.

Of the two suitable, both have the  i7-7700HQ Kaby Lake which is standard for the new i7 series for laptops.  It provides reasonable clock rates, but not at the top end.

So the SPEC 2 laptop is the option to go for but will cost the extra US$390.  That might pay for itself in added capability over the period you use the laptop for client visualization work.

Thx for the reply. I just wanted to know, mainly, if with the SPEC 1 (GTX 1050TI) pc i could work reasonable with the software. May i say that i will use for moderately complex scenes. Clearly the PC with GTX 1060 peforms better, but, sadly, im in a brazilian reality, and talking about a difference of over R$1.000,00 (brazilian money), thats quite a lot!!! :'(  :'(  :-\ , thats why im looking for a better cost-benefits. I cannot invest in a desktop, becouse I need to take the laptop to univesity to use the software on class and at home (studing). I'm looking for a PC between R$4500 and R$6000 max.

PS: About the processor, laptops with good clocks (over 4.0) costs over than a kidney (R$15.000,00+)

Thank you!

OK, so there is really no choice as the GTX 945M is not going to work.

So the GTX 1050 Ti with a Passmark of 5745 is below the minimum of 6000 Passmarks for a moderately complex Scene.  That will not exclude doing one of moderate complexity, but means the complexity is still at the low level, and importantly you will most likely suffer from slow frames per second in Build Mode, and longer render times.  Use of higher end effects such as Reflection Planes and Global Illumination will have to be strictly limited.

The 4GB memory of the card meets requirements for moderately complex Scenes, and given the laptop has 16GB then for such Scenes it should be able to make use of the faster System Memory in most, but not all cases.  It will depend on the type of Scenes you need to create.

re processor, yes, the faster 4Ghz clocked CPU's are still not price affordable for many  :(.  It will be interesting to see what happens with pricing and performance in the market between the Intel and AMD Ryzen chips.

Which edition of Lumion will you plan on using?

I dunno... maybe the newest, or, 6 pro, recommended by a friend of mine. Does the previous edition works faster than the new one?  ??? ???

Lumion V6 Pro is no longer available.  The current version is V7.5 in two editions standard and Pro.  The new one works just as fast and with better features.
