I haven't found a need to turn off the Animation, its on by default and does not seem to have affected things with what I have been working with. I would doubt that flag is affecting things though, it's there to allow animations to run (on/off), if there's no animations in the model then its only a single setting, won't impact on performance.
How big: polys, vertices, number of materials in the model etc? Also, are your PC specs sufficient for the model? And, do you need to turn down the settings(Image Quality) whilst running in Build Mode so that things work better for the requirements of the model being used?
You can test the Anim flag and model etc, simply by closing down Lumion, start Lumion again so fresh start (not absolutely required as the switch is when adding a model but for a clean test), then import/add the model as a new model, give it a different name and turn off the Animation switch. See what the difference is.
