I animated a sliding gate. It opens as the camera moves to it. And then just before I'm totaly throug it it closes. I moved the camera a bit to compensate but what went wrong?

Did you animate it in Lumion (standard or professional animation), or in 3DS Max (or something similar)?

I did the animation in Lumion.

you can do a simple animation in Lumion, where you define a starting point and en endpoint. In your case the closed gate and the open gate. Why don t you use these sort of animation, than you will not run into risk that the door closes before you have passed it.

If you wanna do 4 steps, you have to use the extended animationtool (I have to check how these 2 animation toolos are named, don t have Lumion at my reach at the moment):
gate is closed, gate is open, gate is open, gat closes

I assume that is what you used. The problem is that when there is not much time between step 2 and 3, your gate will bounce a bit, since I think in Lumion the animation translations are done as a curve and it is not possible at the moment to make a linear movement. In 3ds max for example you can decide how the computer shall calculate the interpolation between two steps (keys).

Just to add a little to what mishca said.

Yeah, sounds like you maybe were using Advanced Animation Effect?

If so, then what you were seeing is the auto-looping (a current issue) with the Advanced Animation. Where the animation completes, but the clip is still playing frames, the animation will loop back, hence the gate appears closed.

You would need to extend the gate animation slightly, or do what you did, or alternatively, break the clip into two clips so the timing is exact for the camera and opened position of the gate, up to/slightly past the gate, then past gate onwards.  But this approach can also lead to some tricky bits to get right.

Indeed I used the advanced animation. A clip of 4 or 5 views. The animation was only playing for the first cameraview. The gate closed on the moment it went to the second view.

I have it.

I made the animation longer (slower to about 16 seconds) . But the animated gates where still the same length about 10 seconds. But first I made the change in the speed of the clip and then I made the animation. So there is something not correct.

I have to make my animation again because I have upgraded to 2.5 pro from 2.1

The gates have to open at 9.5 seconds and be full open at 11.5 seconds. So I use the advanced animation.

When I move the gates in animation mode to the correctpoint and I let go of them they automaticly move to the zero point of the project. And the little white line with bullet does not apear?

Help?!

Hi ron_ADST, could you try to re-apply the Advanced Animation effect to see if that helps?

I was trying for about an hour to get that animation on the gates. Several try's - 2 times I was almost there but then the animation was not what I wanted.

Workflow. -

Put the animation to the end frame - Open the gates
Go to 11.5 seconds - move the gates just a little bit
Go to 9.5 seconds - close the gates
Go to 0 seconds move the gates just a bit.

Or I have to say - that worked in 2.1 - now I don't get it right.

And what do you mean with re-aply?

I orignally did this video to test a basic gate animation, with camera swinging around just to show the gate stays open, atlhough of course it does not have to.  Is this what you were trying for?

(Delete the effect and re-apply it)

Duplicated the keyframe not showing.  Seems like a (small) bug? in the animation effect when the object is clicked on (as if selected) and then moved, but not showing the keyframes for the selected object ie you move the object using the Shift key and then let go mouse button, the animation keyframes do not display as it appears no object is currently the selection.  As its possible to move the object without a specific selection, then if using for example the Shift key to constrain height, Lumion is not recognising the selection and thus not showing the keyframes.

Try re-applying as Morten suggests, but force selection before adding keyframes in the Advanced Animation Effect, ie left click the object icon and make sure is selected (or use Ctrl + left click), the object should have the light blue wireframe of a current selection. Do a move etc for the keyframes now, the object is permanently selected until a selection changes, and so the keyframes are shown in the bar.

Hope this is clear and not messing instructions from Morten.

Edit:  duplication was only in the keyframe not showing, not the moving to project zero point, thats a known bug if the first keyframe is deleted, the animation data is set to world center, even though in Build Mode the object is back at its original placement position.

I realy know that I have selected 1 of the gates. I get the move icon on the place of the insertiondot. But most of the times the big blue dot is not there. Also, the compleet scene becomes blue and green. The Ctrl I did not use so that I will try tomorrow - now they have to settle for closed gates.

.. Also, the compleet scene becomes blue and green.

Yiks.  Maybe other problems, that sounds familiar, Morten might have the answer.  :-D

ps: in current animation have now not been able to replicate moving without it selecting the object, so there's some other circumstances happening also.  Will try in a new movie.
