when I try to put a material on the model - the outcome is not good.

Instead of seeing the material - lines appear. this has happened with every material I have tried.
clearly something is not working properly.

what can be done?

correction-

happens with every material when used on a large surface (small surfaces seem to be mostly ok)

Hi Arc+

Would you please add your Lumion 4 license key to your forum Account (click here, scroll to the bottom and enter your license number).

Hi Arc+

Great, thanks for doing that.  :)  It also gives you access to the Commercial Section of the forum.

1.  What 3D modelling application did the model come from, SketchUp, Revit etc?

2.  Have any materials been applied in SketchUp or Revit?

3.  If SketchUp, have you tried importing the SkUp file directly?  See Lumion dropdown list, v4 reads directly to save exportings to Collada.

If you use Lumion Materials it will set a default Scale (usually 0.2) for the material, but you can change that to match the area and desired scale.  It should not show the material as in pic 2 unless no UV's exist for the surface.  In SketchUp the Default Material if used, will still have a UV which can be scaled OK in Lumion.

4.  Also, have you added your own normalmap to the outside wall?

Might be best to send us the source model and export your scene to an LS4, zip and send via wetransfer.com -> peterm [at] act-3d.com and morten [at] act-3d.com.

OK, thanks, will wait for the model, and LS4.

Is there an FBX exporter, and if so have you tried using that.  I understand Chief Architect exports 3DS, does it work OK with that?

We have some members using Chief Architect.  Perhaps they can assist.

Here's a topic from a regular, that covers his workflow from Chief Architect: Box Residence.  Please try those steps.

Hi Arc+

Just a follow-up to see how you are getting on with importing from Chief Architect.
