We have recently completed a time lapse video depicting the life of a future mine. It is located in the state of Idaho. It will begin its life span in three years and run for the following 50 years until it is fully reclaimed. The client wanted a 3d model to show the look of the terrain at different years. Once we constructed all of the yearly models in sketchup we were able to position them all in lumion and then turn each year on and off. The video that I am attaching shows nearly every year from pre-production to fully reclaimed year 50. The model is fully to scale so the size of each year model is very immense. If not for the capabilities that lumion offers with large size file management I never would have been able to make this happen. We have only created renders and a 2 minute video at this point. There will be many more videos constructed in the future. I want to give a shout out to Lumion for providing us with the program to make this a reality. If you all have any feedback or questions then feel free to let me know.
We were able to create large scale mesh's out of sketchup from the lidar data. We used mine studios and then meshlab. Once converted we texture each of the models and brought into lumion. The whole project took about 6 hours or so per year. There were 20 years so the whole thing took about a month to construct. But based up the size and extent of the project 40 hours was not that much.
