WARNING: AVOID VIMEO

During upload of a movie to Vimeo I noticed that the upload app now clearly states that Vimeo is forbidden for any commercial usage!

We're moving all our movies to Youtube now.

If you have movies for you client don't host them on Vimeo!!!
They can be removed after a 24h warning for arbitrary reasons.

I could not believe we were not allowed to host Lumion movies on Vimeo so I Googled it and as it turns out there are many people that had many of their movies removed because Vimeo decided that there was commercial intent behind the movies.

We used Vimeo because the quality was better but these days Youtube has about the same quality.

Youtube has definitely gotten better, quality wise.  I've been using adobe media encoder with H.264 or FLV format to finalize my edited videos before uploading.  The quality is near perfect.

I never upload my walkthroughs to Vimeo because they clearly state:

"You may not upload product promotions or sales videos, such as real estate walkthroughs."

there are nice freeware players out there so you can include it to your website if you dont want to host it on ytube or another plattform.

As an artist I don't see why you could not upload them as demonstrations of your body of work.  As long as it is pretty clear that it is part of your video portfolio ...  Thought they encourage that.

I noticed in a comparison test with the alpine dwelling example file that the mp4 generated was of a higher quality than one made from a bitmap image sequence -> virtualdub -> media encoder cs5 (H.264 29.97).  Which settings or other software do you use to achieve near perfect results?

Mr. Betke - could you provide us with some links?  Thanks.

Generally the quality is low when you stream your movies from your own servers, unless ofcourse you have a worldwide distribution system for your server. You can do it easily but don't expect your video to buffer as smoothly as youtube.
